Around the MIAA (through April 21 matches)

Adrian (5-12, 3-3)

The Adrian College women's tennis team played in one match last week and fell to Calvin, 9-0. Junior Makayla Jorgensen gave the Knights all they could handle at the four singles spot, taking set one in a tiebreaker before losing in an extended tiebreaker in set three, 6-7(6), 6-1, 10-8. The Bulldogs finish up the regular season with matches against Hope and Kalamazoo this week.


Albion (5-10, 1-6)

Albion will play their final match of the 2019 season April 24 at home against Saint Mary's.


Alma (9-7, 2-4)

Did not compete.


Calvin (13-5, 4-2)

Calvin had a huge week picking up two 9-0 conference wins over Adrian and Olivet. Madeline Brouwer was named MIAA player of the Week.


No. 32 Hope (13-5, 6-0)

Hope is closing in on a record-tying fifth consecutive MIAA regular season championship. The Flying Dutch defeated Albion College, 9-0, on Friday at DeWitt Tennis Center to remained undefeated in league matches.


Kalamazoo (8-7, 4-1)

Kalamazoo finished the week with a 1-2 record after defeating MIAA foe Saint Mary's 6-3 and falling to non-conference opponents Lake Forest and Wheaton. The Hornets defeated the Belles in one and two doubles and went on to be victorious in four singles matches with Laura Hanselman, Maddy Winarski, Caroline Norton, and Sonal Bahl winning. Norton improved her singles record to 15-8 overall this season and is now 5-0 in MIAA matches. Hanselman and Winarski are now 4-1 in conference play. Kalamazoo will wrap up regular season play this week with away matches at Calvin on Wednesday and Adrian on Saturday.


Olivet (2-15, 0-8)

The Olivet College women's tennis ended its season with losses at Albion and Calvin last week.


Saint Mary's (12-9, 4-2)

The Belles ended on the short side of a 6-3 final against regionally-ranked Kalamazoo in a battle for second place in league standings last week. Alyssa Gulli continued to lead the way with wins in both doubles and singles play for Saint Mary's. Lilly Chamberlin teamed up with Gulli for the two doubles win, and Elizabeth Preister battled her way to a five singles win.


Trine (10-7, 4-2)
