Hope Women's Tennis Serves Up Wins Vs. Augustana, Coe

The Hope College women's tennis team enjoyed a warm, sunny day at VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts on Saturday, claiming two nonleague wins and raising its record to 11-4 overall.

The 34th-ranked Flying Dutch defeated regionally ranked Augustana, Illinois 7-2 in the morning and Coe, Iowa 8-1 in the afternoon. The matches were part of Hometown Week festivities, presented by Lorence & Vander Zwart.

Hope also was ranked eighth in the ITA Central Region, while Augustana was 13th.

Five singles players went two matches apiece for Hope: junior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) at the top flight, senior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) at No. 2, senior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) at No. 3, junior Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) at No. 4, and freshman Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) at No. 6.

Benda and Holaway also went undefeated at No. 1 doubles. 

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, April 20 with a 4 p.m. match at Albion.
