Hope Women's Tennis Defeats Saint Mary's For Second MIAA Victory

The Hope College women's tennis team swept an eight-win Saint Mary's College for a 9-0 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association road win Saturday.

The 27th-ranked Flying Dutch improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play. Hope remained tied atop the league standings with Kalamazoo.

The Flying Dutch won all the singles matches in straight sets against Saint Mary's (8-4, 1-1 MIAA).

Junior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) won the No. 1 flight 6-2, 6-2 over Andrea Fetters.

At No. 2, senior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) topped Monica Davy 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 3, senior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) defeated Sam Setterblad 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 4, junior Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) beat Margaret Faller 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 5, sophomore Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) downed Maddie Minaudo 6-3, 7-6 (3).

At No. 6, freshman Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) won 6-1, 6-0 against Kaity Venters.

In doubles play, Benda and Holaway teamed at the No. 1 flight for an 8-1 win vs. Setterblad and Davy.

LaBarge and Garcia defeated Minaudo and Faller 8-4 at No. 2.

Rahrig and Mader beat Fetters and Venters 9-8 (4) at No. 3. 

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, April 12 when the Flying Dutch host Alma for a 4 p.m. MIAA match at DeWitt Tennis Center.
