Hope Women's Tennis Sweeps Pair Of Matches In Florida

The Hope College women's tennis team claimed its first two wins of the season with victories of 9-0 vs. Scranton, Pennsylvania and 8-1 vs. Grinnell, Iowa on Tuesday in Kissimmee, Florida.

The 27th-ranked Flying Dutch improved their overall record to 2-3.

Senior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) picked up wins at No. 1 singles against Scranton and No. 2 singles against Grinnell.

Three other players won both singles matches they played as well: senior Marie Holaway of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa HS) at No. 2 singles vs. Scranton and No. 3 singles against Grinnell, junior Kate Mader of Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) at No. 3 singles vs. Scranton and No. 4 singles against Grinnell and sophomore Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) at No. 4 singles vs. Scranton and No. 5 singles against Grinnell.

Hope's No. 1 doubles team of Holaway and junior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) also earned two wins.

The Flying Dutch return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against Birmingham Southern in Orlando.
