Hope Women's Tennis Edged By Davenport In Nonleague Match

The Hope College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Davenport on Tuesday in a nonleague match at DeWitt Tennis Center. 

The Flying Dutch wore pink during the match to honor Peggy Gorno, the wife of former Hope men's tennis coach Steve Gorno and a breast cancer survivor. Peggy Gorno is now battling colon cancer.

The Flying Dutch earned three points in singles play and one in doubles action.

At No. 1 singles, junior Nancy Benda of Birmingham, Michigan (Seaholm HS) defeated Alyssa Fuentes 6-4, 6-2.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Natalie Rahrig of Fort Wayne, Indiana (Bishop Luers HS) outlasted Emily Spiech 6-1, 5-7, 14-12.

At No. 6 singles, freshman Catherine Wingrove of Okemos, Michigan (Okemos HS) topped Bridget Barrett 7-6, 0-6, 10-7. 

At No. 2 doubles, senior Anna Garcia of Battle Creek, Michigan (Lakeview HS) and freshman Taylor LaBarge of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) beat the pair of Steph Ritson and Anne Douwes 9-7.

Hope (0-3 overall) returns to action on Tuesday-Friday, March 22-25 with four matches in Orlando, Florida during its annual spring break trip.
