Twenty MIAA Individuals, Nineteen Relays Qualify for 2024 NCAA Division III Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Individuals and relays from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) punched their ticket to the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

On the men's side, seven individuals and nine relays were selected to compete at the NCAA Championships.

Calvin University will be sending five individuals and five relays to the national competition.  Junior David Bajwa, the 2024 MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer, qualified for the 100 back, the 200 back, and the 50 free.  Charles Platt, a sophomore Knight, will join Bajwa in both the 100 back and the 200 back.  Both senior Forrest Peterson and graduate student Julien Camy punched their tickets into the 100 fly, while Camy and classmate Eric Chimes will also compete in the 200 fly.  Calvin's qualifying relays include the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay, the 800 free relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 medley relay.

Hope College will be represented by two individuals and four relays.  Senior Ben Catton will swim in three different events:  the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 100 fly.  Junior Colin Kalkman will compete in the 100 back.  The qualifying Flying Dutchman relays include the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 medley relay.

On the women's side, thirteen individual swimmers and ten relays were invited to compete in the national competition.

Juniors Hannah Fathman and Mattie Smith will travel to the NCAA Championships for Albion College.  Fathman qualified for both the 50 free and the 100 free, while Smith will be competing in both the 100 breast and the 200 breast.

The Knights will be represented by four swimmers and five relays. Senior Maggie Maggie Farrell will compete in both the 50 free and the 100 fly.  Farrell will be joined by junior Sydney Sonday in the 50 free event.  Sonday also punched her ticket into the 100 free with senior Isabella Gable, while Gable and freshman Emma Merkel both qualified for the 200 free.  Merkel will also represent Calvin in the 200 back.  The Knights' qualifying relays include the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay, the 800 free relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 medley relay.

Hope junior Greta Gidley, the 2024 MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer, qualified for three individual events: the 100 free, the 100 fly, and the 200 IM.  Both sophomores Isabella Turner and Laurel Wasiniak will join Gidley in the 100 free.  Junior Sara Kraus also punched her ticket into three individual events including the 100 back, the 200 back, and the 200 IM.  Sophomore Katie Hermann will swim alongside Gidley in the 200 back, while junior Lauren Ryle qualified for the 100 breast.  Hope's qualifying relays include the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay, the 800 free relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 medley relay.

The University of Olivet will send senior Jennifer Mann to the national competition.  Mann qualified for the 200 breast and will also compete in both the 200 IM and the 200 free.

The 2024 championships are set to take place March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.  The Greensboro Aquatic Center and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference will host the event.
