Hope College notched a victory in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:20.95 to start the second day of the 2024 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The winning group included senior Ben Catton, freshman Christian Hoeksema, junior Colin Kalkman, and freshman Graham Eisenmann. Calvin University placed second (1:20.99) and was followed by the Flying Dutchmen in third place with a time of 1:24.39.
Hope graduate student Bailey Smith defended his title in the 500 free after clocking in at 4:35.26. Teammate Alex Pierce, a freshman on the Flying Dutchmen's roster, finished as the runner-up (4:37.23). Calvin newcomer Ryan Halberg rounded out the top three with a time of 4:38.95.
Senior Eric Chimes of Calvin won the 200 IM after finishing the event in a record-breaking time of 1:48.89. Sophomore teammate Tim Hays served as the runner-up with a time of 1:50.26 and was followed by freshman Flying Dutchman Nick Suranyi in third place (1:53.77).
Calvin junior David Bajwa earned a victory in the 50 free after clocking in at 20.09. Senior teammate Forrest Peterson concluded the race in second place (20.20) and Hope senior Ben Catton in third place (20.31).
Calvin junior Will Goodpaster represented the Knights on the top podium spot after winning the one-meter dive with a score of 469.80. Junior teammate Jason Perez claimed second place with a score of 406.75 and Hope senior Ewan Tiongson finished third (405.15).
Calvin wrapped up the second day of competition in record-breaking fashion with a time of 3:13.40 in the 400 medley relay. The first-place quartet included sophomores Charles Platt and Caleb Gemmen, senior Julien Camy, and junior David Bajwa. Hope concluded the relay in second place (3:16.72) and the Knights finished in third place (3:21.00).

Women's Recap
Hope College opened day two of the 2024 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships with an MIAA record-breaking time of 1:33.26 in the 200 free relay. The winning quartet included junior Lauren Ryle, senior Delaney Wesolek, sophomore Laurel Wasiniak, and junior Sara Kraus. Calvin University finished second with a time of 1:33.57, followed by the Flying Dutch in third place (1:36.13).
Knight Emma Merkel earned her first individual victory after clocking in at 5:02.92 in the 500 free. Calvin senior Isabella Gable was the runner-up with a time of 5:03.31, followed by Hope sophomore Ashlea Swingewood in third place (5:06.61).
Hope swept the top four finishes in the 200 IM once again. Junior Greta Gidley defended her title in record-breaking fashion with a time of 2:00.79, breaking her own previous record. Junior Sara Kraus came in second place after clocking in at 2:04.68. Freshman Anna Stolle finished in third place (2:05.49), followed by sophomore Katie Hermann in fourth place (2:05.71).
Albion College junior Hannah Fathman earned a first-place finish in the 50 free with a record-breaking time of 22.82. Calvin junior Maggie Farrell finished in second place (23.44) and was trailed by classmate Sydney Sonday in third place with a time of 23.49.
Sophomore Abby Koops of Hope defended her title in the three-meter dive after scoring a 428.10. Senior teammate Cameron Hamilton recorded a score of 384.45 for a second-place finish, while Hope senior Sophia Farbarzhevich earned third place with a score of 375.80.
The Flying Dutch earned the 400 medley relay championship title for the fifth-consecutive season after finishing in a record-breaking time of 3:46.11. The first-place quartet included sophomore Katie Hermann, juniors Lauren Ryle and Greta Gidley, and senior Delaney Wesolek. Calvin finished the relay in second place (3:46.21) and was followed by Albion in third place with a time of 3:52.93.
