Hope Defends MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship Title

Hope College won the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship title for the fourth-straight season.  The Flying Dutch totaled 1,127.5 points after four days of competition.

Junior Norah Martin of Hope opened the final day of competition with a victory by over nearly 13 seconds in the 1650 free (17:44.60).  Freshman teammate Natalie Pitera (17:57.27) and junior teammate Grace Wesley (18:06.34) claimed second and third place, respectively.

Hope junior Sara Kraus won the 200 back for the third-straight year after clocking in at 2:01.21.  Calvin University senior Isabella Gable earned the runner-up spot (2:02.50) and was trailed by freshman teammate Emma Merkel in third place (2:02.52).

Junior Hannah Fathman of Albion College claimed the 100 free victory with a time of 50.23.  Hope junior Greta Gidley completed the event in second place (51.07) and sophomore teammate Laurel Wasiniak in third place (51.09).

Albion junior Mattie Smith earned the second victory of the evening for the Brits, clocking in at 2:19.43 to place first in the 200 breast.  Senior Jennifer Mann of The University of Olivet was the runner-up (2:19.74), while Hope freshman Anna Stolle finished third (2:20.70).

Hope sophomore Ashlea Swingewood defended her championship title in the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.90.  Junior teammate Grace Wesley clocked in at 2:10.43 for second place, followed by freshman teammate Natalie Pitera in third place (2:11.76).

Junior Flying Dutch Abby Koops once again won the one-meter diving event with a score of 415.95.  Freshman Veronica Skipper of Calvin finished second (391.75) and Hope senior Cameron Hamilton third (389.50).

Albion notched the final victory of the night with a time of 3:36.18 in the 400 free relay.  The winning quartet included seniors Sage Gettings and Bryn Cavanaugh, and juniors Mattie Smith and Hannah Fathman.
