MIAA Swimmers Qualify for 2023 NCAA Division III Championships; One Diver Advances to National Competition

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Individuals and relays from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) punched their ticket to the 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

On the women's side, eight individual swimmers, one diver, and eight relays were invited to compete in the national competition.  In addition, one swimmer is on the alternate list.

Sophomore Hannah Fathman and junior Sage Gettings will represent Albion College in individual events.  Fathman qualified for the 50 free, while Gettings was invited to compete in the 100 fly.

Calvin University junior Maggie Farrell will compete in the 100 fly and freshman Isabella Gable will participate in both the 100 free and the 200 free.  Farrell and Gable will join senior Hannah Brown and sophomore Sydney Sonday for the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.  Junior Haley Thier, Farrell, Gable, and Sonday will also race in the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay.

Hope College had four individuals punch their ticket to the women's competition:  sophomore diver Abby Koops, sophomore Greta Gidley (100 fly, 200 IM, 100 free), freshman Katie Hermann (100 back), sophomore Sara Kraus (200 IM, 100 back, 200 back), and freshman Laurel Wasiniak (200 free).  All three swimmers will assist the Flying Dutch in the relays that they qualified for (200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 800 free relay), along with senior Alyssa Kerkman, sophomore Lauren Ryle, freshman Ashlea Swingewood, freshman Isabella Turner, and junior Delaney Wesolek.

Kalamazoo College senior Camille Misra is currently on the alternate list for the 100 back.

On the men's side, five individuals and four relays were selected to compete at the NCAA Championships.

Albion will be represented by sophomore Billy Barr in the 50 free and Hope junior Ben Catton will be competing in the 100 fly.

Graduate student Noah Hostege of Calvin qualified for three individual events, including the 50 free, the 100 free, and the 100 back.  Senior Knight Jacob Heeres will also be competing in the 100 free, while classmate Julien Camy qualified for the 100 fly.  Holstege, Heeres, and Camy will be joined by junior Corey Campbell, freshman Caleb Gemmen, graduate student Bryce Miner, junior Forrest Peterson, and freshman Charles Platt in Calvin's qualifying relays (200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay, 400 medley relay).

The championships will be held March 15-18 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Old Dominion Athletic Conference and Greensboro Aquatic Center will serve as hosts.  A total of 579 participants (526 swimmers and 53 divers) will compete in the championships.
