MIAA Student-Athletes Compete at 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Student-athletes from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) competed at the 2023 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, March 15-18, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Graduate student Noah Holstege of Calvin University was crowned the National Champion in the 50 free after clocking in at 19.48.  Albion College sophomore Billy Barr completed the 50 free in 20.72. 

Hope College sophomore Greta Gidley was deemed the National Runner-Up in the 200 IM after she concluded the race in 2:00.71.  Teammate Sara Kraus finished the 200 IM in eighth place with a time of 2:04.21.

The Calvin men's 200 free relay was the National Runner after finishing the event in 1:18.85.  The second-place quartet included Holstege, senior Jacob Heeres, junior Forrest Peterson, and junior Corey Campbell.

The Knights finished the men's 200 medley relay in fourth place with a time of 1:27.09.  Calvin's quartet included Holstege, freshman Caleb Gemmen, Peterson, and Heeres.

Calvin's Heeres tied-for-fourth in the 100 free with a time of 44.44, while teammate Holstege finished in seventh place (44.96).

Hope's Kraus earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 back (55.44) and was trailed by freshman teammate Katie Hermann in eighth place (56.06).

The Knights concluded the 400 free relay in fifth place with a time of 2:58.91.  The quartet included Heeres, Holstege, freshman Charles Platt, and fifth-year Bryce Miner.

Calvin junior Maggie Farrell completed the 100 fly in seventh place (55.05), followed by Hope's Gidley in 11th place (55.75) and Albion junior Sage Gettings with a time of 56.16.

Hope teammates Kraus and Hermann concluded the 200 back in seventh (2:00.80) and eighth (2:01.85), respectively.

Calvin freshman Isabella Gable earned a 10th-place finish in 1:50.62, while Hope freshman Laurel Wasiniak completed the event in 1:54.54.

The Flying Dutch placed 10th in the 200 medley relay after finishing the event in 1:43.56.  Hope's quartet included Hermann, sophomore Sara Kraus, senior Alyssa Kerkman, and Wasiniak.  Calvin just missed the B cut with a 17th-place finish (1:44.99).  The Knights' group included Gable, junior Haley Thier, Farrell, and sophomore Sydney Sonday.

Calvin earned a 10th-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:26.35).  The Knights swimming in the event included Gable, Farrell, senior Hannah Brown, and Sonday.  Hope finished the relay in 12th place with a time of 3:26.69.  The Flying Dutch quartet included freshman Isabella Turner, Gidley, Wasiniak, and junior Delaney Wesolek.

The Calvin women's 200 free relay finished in 11th place with a time of 1:34.03.  The Knight quartet included Farrell, Sonday, freshman Meghan Bengelink, and Gable.  Hope's 200 free relay (1:35.92) included Turner, Wasiniak, Gidley, and Wesolek.

The Calvin men's 11th-place 400 medley relay (3:17.61) included Holstege as the lead off, Gemmen, senior Julien Camy, and Heeres as the anchor.

The Flying Dutch concluded the women's 800 free relay in 11th place with a time of 7:31.28.  The quartet included Gidley, Kraus, freshman Ashlea Swingewood, and Wasiniak.

Hope's Gidley tied-for-12th in the 100 free after clocking in at 51.31, while Albion's Hannah Fathman finished 16th (51.76).  Calvin's Gable concluded the 100 free prelims in 51.96.

Sophomore Abby Koops of Hope clinched 13th place on the three-meter board with 396.20 points.  Later at the national event, she landed the one-meter dive in 21st place with a score of 364.65.

The Hope women's 400 medley relay completed the race in 14th place (3:48.19).  The Flying Dutch quartet included Kraus, sophomore Lauren Ryle, Gidley, and Wasiniak.

Calvin's Holstege concluded the men's 100 back in 16th place after clocking in at 49.26.

Hope junior Ben Catton just missed the consolation final cut with a 17th-place finish in the 100 fly (48.28).  Calvin's Camy Concluded the 100 fly in 20th place with a time of 48.36.

Albion Fathman swam the 50 free prelims in a time of 23.84.

On the women's side, Hope finished the NCAA Championships in 10th place (132) and Calvin in 18th place (45).  On the men's side, the Knights earned a ninth-place finish with 153.5 points.
