Hope Claims 2023 MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship Crown

Hope won the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Swimming and Diving Championship title for the third-straight season.  The Flying Dutch totaled 1,131 points after four days of competition.

Sophomore Grace Wesley of Hope opened the final day of competition with a victory in the 1650 free (17:55.18).  Classmate Norah Martin (17:56.82) and junior teammate Jess Estabrook (18:13.80) claimed second and third place, respectively.

Hope sophomore Sara Kraus won the 200 back for the second-straight year after clocking in at an MIAA record-breaking time -- and currently the fastest time in Division III -- of 1:57.94.  She broke her previous record of 1:58.60 from last season.  Calvin University junior Isabella Gable earned the runner-up spot (2:01.05) and was trailed by Kalamazoo College senior Camille Misra in third place (2:04.51).

Sophomore Greta Gidley of Hope claimed the third victory of the evening for the Flying Dutch with a time of 50.94 in the 100 free.  Calvin claimed the next two spots on the podium with sophomore Sydney Sonday in second place (51.43) and junior Maggie Farrell in third place (51.57).

Olivet College junior Jennifer Mann clocked in at 2:20.58 to place first in the 200 breast.  Sophomore Haley Thier of Calvin was the runner-up (2:21.66), while Hope sophomore Lauren Ryle finished third (2:22.83).

Hope freshman Ashlea Swingewood notched a victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.67.  Albion senior Sarah Griffiths clocked in at 2:08.50 for second place, followed by Hope senior Alyssa Kerkman in third place (2:10.44).

Calvin notched the final victory of the night with a record-breaking time of 3:25.23 in the 400 free relay.  The Knights broke the previous record (3:27.79) from 2018 by over two seconds.  The winning quartet included Isabella Gable, Maggie Farrell, Hannah Brown, and Sydney Sonday.  Hope clocked in at 3:26.32 for second place and was trailed by Albion in third place (3:34.80).
