All-MIAA - Women's Swimming & Diving - 2022-23

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2023 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the six head coaches selected the 2022-23 All-MIAA honorees.

Hope College sophomore Sara Kraus earned the title of MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer for the second year in a row following her performance at the MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships.  Kraus participated in three winning relays and notched three individual victories.  In the first two days of competition, Kraus competed in the first-place 800 free relay (7:28.81) and the No. 1 400 medley relay (3:47.00).  She won her first individual title of the meet in the 100 back on Friday.  Her time of 54.97 broke the previous record of 55.84 which was set in 2019.  Kraus closed out day three with an MIAA record-breaking win in the 200 medley relay (1:43.31).  The previous record of 1:43.65 was set last year by Albion.  Her final individual win was a new MIAA record and the fastest time in Division III.  She clocked in at 1:57.94 in the 200 back.

Hope sophomore Abby Koops received the title of Most Valuable Diver for the second-straight year after sweeping the diving competition at the conference meet.  Koops opened the diving competition with a score of 441.15 on the one-meter board.  She earned 441.75 points in the three-meter dive to clinch her second victory of the meet.

In its second year, the Senior Impact Award was created to recognize the men's and women's swimmers and divers that best exemplify the MIAA and Division III in both the classroom and their communities.  Alma's Raegan Stambaugh and Albion's Justin Huttenlocher were this year's Senior Impact Award recipients.

Stambaugh is an Education major at Alma who boasts a grade-point average of 3.85.  She not only holds the leadership position of a two-year team captain, but she is the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), a New Member Educator for Gamma Phi Beta for three years, and the Vice President and Secretary of the Education Club for two years.  Stambaugh has totaled over 150 hours between the following organizations: teaching and implementing sex education for the Alma Michigan Child Advocacy Program, assisting students as a tutor in the Alma College Enrichment Partnership Program, and working around the town on Make Alma Beautiful Day.

Albion's Sage Gettings, Calvin's Maggie Farrell, and Olivet's Jennifer Mann each earned All-MIAA accolades for the third time in their careers.  Albion's Hannah Fathman and Mattie Smith, Calvin's Sydney Sonday and Haley Thier, and Hope's Alyssa Kerkman, Sara Kraus, and Grace Wesley all earned all-conference recognition for a second time.
