FREELAND, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, the six head coaches selected the 2021-22 All-MIAA honorees.
Hope College freshman Sara Kraus earned the title of MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer following exceptional performances at her first-ever MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships. On the opening day of competition, Kraus swam the second leg in the victorious 800 free relay, which earned an NCAA B-cut time of 7:36.58. On day two, she earned her first-ever individual championship with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:04.04 in the 200 IM. Kraus was the lead off in the MIAA record-breaking 400 medley relay (NCAA B-cut - 3:46.85) that same day. She earned her second individual victory with an NCAA B-cut time of 56.15 in the 100 back on day three and set a new MIAA record in the 200 back (NCAA B cut - 1:58.60) on the final day of championships.
Hope freshman Abby Koops received the title of Most Valuable Diver after sweeping the diving competition at her first MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Koops opened the diving competition with a score of 474.50 on the three-meter board and dove a 457.10 on the one-meter board, earning NCAA qualifying scores in both events.
In its inaugural year, the Senior Impact Award was created to recognize the men's and women's swimmers and divers that best exemplify the MIAA and Division III in both the classroom and their communities. Hope's Kam Wilcox and Alma's Jennifer Ostrowski were the first-ever Senior Impact Award recipients.
Ostrowski is an Integrative Physiology and Health Science (IPHS) major at Alma who boasts a grade-point average of 3.68. Ostrowski is a captain for the Scots, where she is an incredibly hard working and self-disciplined individual, along with taking athletes under her wing and guiding them. Around campus Ostrowski is a Dean's List student and is a member of the Student Nurses Association. She takes part in the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and is Vice President of the Alpha Xi Delta. Ostrowski is also an SI Leader, where she tutors other students on campus.
