Hope College claimed the 2021 MIAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship title after tallying 961.5 points.  Calvin University placed second with 931 points, followed by Albion College in third place with 732 points.

Calvin senior Hannabeth Magnussen was named the 2021 MIAA Most Valuable Diver and Hope senior Emma Schaefer earned 2021 MIAA Most Valuable Swimmer.

Thursday Recap

Hope led the competition after the first day of events on Thursday with 495.5 points, followed by Calvin in second place (484 points) and Albion in third with 351 points.

The Flying Dutch earned two individual victories and won the 400 medley relay.  Senior Emma Schaefer broke the MIAA record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.55 (previous record of 2:19.74 from 2011), and also won the 200 IM (2:04.92) for Hope.  This was the second-consecutive year that Schaefer won the 200 breast and the third-straight year winning the 200 IM.  The winning 400 medley relay (3:52.38) included freshman Delaney Wesolek, Schaefer, freshman Rachel Gamm, and classmate Madeline Tessin.

Calvin tallied three individual wins and won two relays.  Freshman Maggie Farrell earned her first individual collegiate championship victory in the 500 free (5:06.94).  Senior Hannah Chao clinched the win in the 200 back for her second-consecutive year, clocking in at 2:02.86.  Senior Hannabeth Magnussen also recorded her second-straight victory, finishing with 450.90 points on the one-meter board.

Albion's individual wins both came from newcomer Sage Gettings.  Gettings came out strong with an MIAA record time of 56.15 in the 100 fly, followed by a first-place finish in the 100 free (52.06).

Saturday Recap

Hope recorded an additional two individual victories on the second day of competition.  Senior Emma Schaefer earned her third individual win of the weekend in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.75.  This was Schaefer's second-consecutive year winning the event.  Freshman Madeline Tessin won her first individual collegiate championship event, finishing the 50 free in 23.60.

Calvin won two individual events and two relays on Saturday.  Senior Hannabeth Magnussen swept the diving competition over the weekend after winning the three-meter dive with 451.45 points.  This is Magnussen's second-straight year winning on the three-meter board.  Freshman Maggie Farrell won her second individual event of the weekend, clocking in at 1:54.02 in the 200 free.  For the second-straight year, senior Hannah Chao won the 100 back (57.04).  The winning 200 medley relay quartet (1:44.72) included Chao, junior Samantha Sonday, senior Jenna Oezer, and sophomore Hannah Brown.  Chao, junior Kiersten Hollis, Farrell, and Brown concluded the competition with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:30.91).

Albion earned top spots in two individual events on the final day of the championship.  Junior Samantha Swingewood notched victories in both the 200 fly (2:05.16) and the 400 IM (4:34.91).
