Around the MIAA

Albion

It was a unique opportunity for Albion as they swam dual meets against Calvin and Alma. The Britons were defeated by Calvin 176.5-118.5 and they defeated Alma 232-42. The competition against Calvin was rescheduled from earlier in the year. Rileigh Eding led the charge for the Britons with three second-place finishes and a first-place finish. Her first-place finish came alongside teammates Tia Ullieme, Allison Dasky, and Hannah Erickson in the 200 Free Relay. Kathryn Henning, Tia Ulieme and Allison Dasky were also part of the second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Eding's other two second-place finishes came in the 100 Back and 100 Free.  


Alma

The swimming and diving team dropped a pair of meets to Calvin and Albion Feb. 1. The women were defeated by the hosts 222-50 and Britons 232-42. Freshman Sarah Wronski (Macomb, Mich.) finished in seventh place in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes with times of 1:05.74 and 2:24.71. 


No. 21 Calvin

Calvin closed out its dual meet season and celebrated Senior Day with victories over Albion and Alma Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center. Calvin defeated Albion 176.5-118.5 and Alma 222-50. The Knights finish the dual meet season with an overall record of 8-4 including 5-0 against MIAA opponents. Ranked 21st nationally, Calvin took first place in 12 events on Saturday. Gunderson helped celebrate Senior Day by winning the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.73. Wellman did the same by winning the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:10.94. Junior Hannah Chao was a double-winner taking first place in the 100 backstroke (58.71) and 100 freestyle (54.14). Junior Robyn Ellens was a double-winner, taking first place in the 500 freestyle (5:29.35) and 1000 freestyle (11:22.70). Junior Hannabeth Magnussen won the one-meter board with a career-best (six dives) score of 266.60 while also winning the three-meter board (six dives) with a career-best score of 267.70.


Hope

Hope closed the regular season with a 170-126 Senor Day victory against Kalamazoo Saturday at the Dow Center. Freshman Tarah Lang (Marshall, Mich.) recorded two first-place finishes: the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.50 and the 500 freestyle at 5:20.71. The Flying Dutch swept the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Aubrey East (Farmington, Mich.) finished first with a time of 1:11.77. On Friday, the Flying Dutch lost to Carthage, 168-112.


Kalamazoo

The Hornets lost 170-126 at Hope College Feb. 1. Two-time individual event winners included Eve Petrie (1-meter, 3-meter) and Camille Misra (100 back, 100 free). Misra also was part of Kalamazoo's 400 free relay team, along with Kate Haywood, Mary Trimble, and Mya Richter, who took first in 3:45.45.


Olivet

Olivet suffered a loss to Albion College in its final MIAA dual meet Friday, Jan. 31. The Comets then defeated Manchester (Ind.) University and Urbana (Ohio) University as part of a triple dual meet Saturday, Feb. 1 at Manchester. Sophomore Kayla Eichaker took first-place in the 50 and 100 butterfly. She also placed second in the 200 IM.
