Alma

The swimming and diving team fell to Hope College in an MIAA dual meet on Saturday. Sophomore Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich.) won both the 50 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke with times of 32.80 and 2:35.00. 


No. 21 Calvin

The Calvin women's swimming and diving team improved to 6-3 in dual meet competition with victories over Olivet and Kalamazoo Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center. Calvin defeated Olivet 166-49 and Kalamazoo 127-105. Calvin took first place in nine events in Saturday's triangular. Junior Hannabeth Magnussen had a huge day on the diving boards, winning the one-meter with a score of 262.65 and the three-meter with a score of 253.15. Calvin will host Albion and Alma next Saturday in a triangular scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Venema Aquatic Center.


Hope

The Hope College women's swimming and diving team topped Alma, 152.5-121.5, and lost to Saginaw Valley State University, 154-130, and Davenport University, 201-95 last week. Against Alma, Freshman Tarah Lang (Marshall, Mich.) claimed top individual spots in three events – the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:04.28, 50 free in 25.66, and the 100 free in 57.36. Against SVSU and Davenport, swimming to first place were senior Erin Emmert (Grand Blanc, Mich.) in the 200 butterfly (2:14.39), freshman Sydney Randall (Byron Center, Mich.) in the 50 freestyle (25.23) and freshman Jenna Kloosterman (Hamilton, Mich.) in the 100 butterfly (59.39).


Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo split meets with Calvin and Olivet on Saturday at Calvin. The Hornets defeated Olivet 178-44 but fell 127-105 to Calvin. Mary Trimble found herself on the top spot in two events as she won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.45 and teamed with Camille Misra, Kate Haywood, and Olivia Anderson in the 200 freestyle relay to post a 1:41.17 and be the first team to touch the wall. Molly Roberts was victorious in the 200 butterfly at 2:17.15 while Claire Cebelak's 5:27.61 was good for first in the 500 freestyle. The Hornets return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Hope.


Olivet

Olivet lost both ends of a MIAA double dual meet to Calvin (166-49) and Kalamazoo (178-44) Jan. 25 at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids. Freshman Sarah LaFoe had a season-best time of 6:05.89 in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Ally Smith performed well in the 200-yard backstroke.
