Around the MIAA

RV Albion

Albion swimmers finished first in all but one event and the Britons had the top two finishers in seven events as it completed the dual meet season with a 170-60 victory over Olivet. Samantha Swingewood was the only Briton to finish first in two individual events – the 50-yard breaststroke and the 200 backstroke. Rileigh Eding (200 medley relay abd 100 butterfly) and Hannah Erickson (50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay) also won two events on the day.


Alma

Did not compete. The Scots will return to the pool for the 2019 MIAA Swimming & Diving Championship Feb. 20-23 in Holland, Mich.


Calvin

The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team closed out its dual meet with a 177-123 victory at Hope on Saturday. Calvin finished its dual meet season with an 8-4 overall record. Senior Anna Serino won the 1,000 freestyle (10:56.26) and 500 freestyle (5:20.70). Sophomore Hannah Chao won the 100 backstroke (59.30) and 100 freestyle (54.19). Sophomore Joselyn Smith won the one-meter (245.10) and three-meter (226.46) diving competitions.


No. 25 Hope

Emma Schaefer took first place in three individual events for the Hope College women’s swimming & diving team on Saturday during a 177-123 dual meet loss to Calvin at Holland Aquatic Center. The Flying Dutch finish MIAA dual meets with a 4-1 record. Schaefer won the 100-yard breaststroke with a swim of 1:07.91  and also clocked a first-place time in the 200 breaststroke of 2:28.15. Schaefer posted a winning effort in the 200 individual medley of 2:11.16.


Kalamazoo

Did not compete. The Scots will return to the pool for the 2019 MIAA Swimming & Diving Championship Feb. 20-23 in Holland, Mich.


Olivet

The Olivet College women's swimming & diving team closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 170-60 loss to Albion Feb. 9 at the Upton Center Pool. Freshman Kayla Eichaker claimed first place in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:05.66. Eichaker also had a second-place time of 36.34 seconds in the 50-yard breaststroke. Junior Abbie Slater swept the diving competition, scoring 179.05 points on the one-meter and 162.85 points on the three-meter.
