Hope sophomore Meghan Peel turned in two sub-two minute times in the 200 backstroke at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships March 20-23, on the way to a National Runner-Up finish in the event. Peel's second-place finish with a Hope-record time of 1:58.50 was the top individual finish by an MIAA student-athlete since Hope's Sarah Sheridan won 3-meter diving in 2016, and best finish by a swimmer since Calvin's Elizabeth Counsell was national runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in 2013.
Peel was ninth overall in the 100 back, earning honorable mention All-American honors after winning the consolation final with a time of 55.64.
Other highlights by MIAA student-atheletes were a pair of honorable mention All-American performances on the diving board by Kalamazoo's Nicki Bailey; the sophomore finished 13th nationally in the 3-meter and 14th in the 1-meter events.
Calvin's Anna Serino was a two-time honorable mention All-American after finishing 15th in the consolation final in the 200 free (1:52.05) and was part of the Knights' 15th place 200 free relay (1:35.74); edging Calvin in the consolation final was Albion's 200 free relay, as the Britons placed 14th with a time of 1:35.41.
Hope scored 26 points to finish 27th overall, while Kalamazoo scored seven points to tie for 37th place as a team. Albion and Calvin (six points) tied for 40th place. Emory emerged as the 2019 Women's Swimming & Diving champion with 488 points, edging second-place Kenyon by nine points.
