Calvin Women's Swimming & Diving Takes 14th Consecutive MIAA Championship

Women's Recap

Calvin wrapped up their 14th-consecutive MIAA title with a convincing team effort throughout the four-day event, scoring 929 points. The Knights put an emphatic stamp on the night, winning the 400 Free Relay with an MIAA-record time of 3:27.04. Hope finished second to the Knights, scoring 745 points.

Calvin's Abby Van Harn twice set an MIAA record in the 100 free, a record she set and matched in 2016 and 2017; in the prelims, Van Harn was first with a time of 50.83 before zipping to a winning time of 50.04 in the final, the fastest Division III time this season. Her finish led a 1-3-4-5-8 effort by the Knights in the event.

Hope's Meg Peel added a second MIAA backstroke record to her resume, winning the 200 back in 2:00.77 to also earn an NCAA B Cut.

Paula Nolte led a 1-2-3 finish by Hope in the 200 breast, touching first in 2:26.04.

Olivet's Ana Paula Montes de Oca earned an NCAA B Cut in the 1650 free, touching first in 17:17.63.

Men's Recap

Calvin's winning 400 Free Relay time of 3:02.20 edged Albion by .5 seconds, giving the Knights the points they would need to claim the 2018 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championship at Venema Aquatics Center. Calvin edged Albion 934.5-928.5 for one of the closest finishes in MIAA history. Both relay swims were NCAA B Cuts.

Both Calvin's Ben Holstege and Albion's Parker Belmore earned NCAA B Cuts in the 200 back, with Holstege winning the event in 1:49.84.

A 1-2-4 finish by Albion in the 200 Breast helped pull the Britons to within 14 points on Calvin's lead. But the Knights answered back with 66 points in the ensuing event, the 200 fly, bolstered by Tanner Vincent's win in 1:51.98.
