Calvin University's Emily Ottenhoff Tabbed 2023 MIAA Women's Soccer Coach of the Year

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) proudly announces Calvin University's Emily Ottenhoff as the 2023 Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.

This prestigious accolade is a coaches vote based on the achievements of their colleagues both during regular- and post-season competition.

Ottenhoff was selected as the 2023 Women's Soccer Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to their fourth-straight MIAA title and the program's ninth MIAA Women's Soccer Tournament championship.  In her sixth year at the helm of the program, the Knights made a 7-1 mark in league play with an overall record of 14-1-3 heading into the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Six Knights received All-MIAA recognition this season, including two-time MIAA Most Valuable Player Lucy Iverson.

"It is an honor to receive this award on behalf of our program," commented Ottenhoff.  "A recognition like this is clearly a reflection of the entire team and coaching staff and not one individual.  It does not come without the work and performance of our student-athletes.  This season they have stepped into challenges head on and found a way to be consistent through those.  Additionally,  I am grateful to Annette, Tara, and Mark for the work they’ve done for this program.  The responsibility of helping our student-athletes reach their potential is a shared one and I am thankful for their commitment to that vision.  We look forward to another chance to compete this weekend."

Under the leadership of Ottenhoff, Calvin is currently ranked seventeenth in the nation.

Ottenhoff took over as the fifth women's soccer coach at her alma mater (2010) in 2018.  In her first six years, she has led the Knights to four MIAA regular-season championships, three MIAA Tournament titles and three trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Calvin will host Spalding (Ky.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament this Friday, November 10, at 3:00 p.m.
