ALBION – Albion College Athletics and Interim Director of Athletics, Andy Lawrence, is excited to announce the hiring of Ron Rainey to take the reins as the Head Women's Soccer Coach. Rainey joins the Britons after serving as the head coach for nine seasons at Division I Dartmouth College.

"I would like to thank Interim Athletic Director Andy Lawrence, the hiring committee at Albion, and all those I met during the interview process," said Rainey. "I am excited to work in the department and attract women's soccer players to Albion and Albion College. This is a wonderful place for young people to grow and learn and be a part of a tremendous community and I am excited to get started!"

During his tenure with Dartmouth, the team received the NSCAA Team Academic Award for eight consecutive seasons. Rainey also mentored numerous athletes to All-Ivy League and All-Region honors.

Prior to Dartmouth, Rainey was the head coach at the University of Iowa and Ball State University. In each of his head coaching positions, his teams achieved a winning percentage over .500. Rainey also spent time coaching Towson State, Cincinnati, UW-Parkside and Trenton State (now The College of New Jersey).

"We are so excited to introduce Coach Rainey to the Albion Community.  He has a wealth of knowledge and has dedicated his career to the mentoring and coaching of young women's soccer players," Lawrence said.  "We have a tremendous opportunity to continue on the forward path that Coach Scott has established and we believe Coach Rainey will be able to build on the momentum.  We believe that he will continue to build on the academic success of the program along with instituting a championship culture."

Emily Brittain will remain on staff as the women's soccer assistant coach. Brittain is a 2021 Albion graduate and wrapped up her initial season on the sidelines this fall.

"One of the highlights during the interview process was to speak with current members of the Albion team.  Their pride in Albion Women's Soccer and thoughtful questions were a highlight on the day.  It is an honor to continue to build on what Eric Scott has done at Albion for the past decade and work with Emily Brittain as well."

Rainey's start date is scheduled for January 11th. Last season, the women's soccer team finished 7-5-5 overall and advanced to the MIAA Semifinals.
