Around the MIAA

Adrian (13-4-2, 6-1-0)

The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed heading into the MIAA tournament after a pair of conference wins. Adrian took down Saint Mary's 2-0 on Wednesday; Caroline Fleming and Makenna Mascaro accounted for the goals while Angela Davis, Molly Safreed and Mya Oleksiak had assists. The Bulldogs returned home for Senior Day on Saturday when they took down Trine 4-0. The efforts were led by Oleksiak with her pair of goals, helped by Angela Davis and Eve Davis. Fleming, Safreed, Sabrina Weir and Brooke Teska all collected assists. Last week, Fleming took over soul ownership of the all-time assist title (30), while recording her 100th point, now 102. Fleming is only the third athlete in program history to reach that benchmark.

Albion (7-5-2, 4-2-1)

Albion gained its first victory over Hope since 2016 with the 2-1 result last Wednesday…Riley Burnette scored the equalizer, her fifth goal of the season and first since Sept. 8 (when she scored two vs. Manchester)…Rayna Edwards converted a penalty kick for the game-winning goal.

Alma (10-4-1, 5-2-0)

Alma has won four straight games and earned a spot in the MIAA playoffs - with the exact seed still to be determined - after two wins last week. The Scots took down Calvin 2-1 and Kalamazoo 1-0. Kayleigh Reilly (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) and Peyton Erndteman (Norton Shores, Mich.) both scored in the first 17 minutes against Calvin and the Scots held on to win despite a late goal from the Knights. Freshman Paige Messick (Midland, Mich.) scored the game's only goal in the 87th minute in Alma's win over the Hornets.

Calvin (4-9-3, 2-3-2)

Calvin went 1-1-0 last week in conference play, falling at Alma 2-1 and defeating Albion 2-0 at home. The victory over Albion cemented Calvin into the sixth place spot in the conference standings and clinched the No. 6 seed for the upcoming MIAA Tournament. Emma Thompson scored in the 2-1 loss to Alma. In the 2-0 win over Albion, junior Jessie Paulson scored her seventh goal of the season early in the second half. Freshman Anna Reimink then scored the game-winning goal in the closing minutes. Junior goalkeeper Amy Kliewer notched her fourth shutout of the season.

Hope (5-4-6, 4-1-2)

Senior forward Abbey Przekop (Novi, Mich.) scored two first-half goals to lead the Flying Dutch in a 3-0 victory vs. Saint Mary’s. The Flying Dutch improved to 5-4-6 overall and 4-1-2 in the MIAA standings. With 14 points, Hope is in fourth place with one regular-season match remaining. The Flying Dutch are two points out of second place. Hope bounced back from a 2-1 loss at Albion on Wednesday. Junior forward Brinley Nieuwenhuis (Wayland, Mich.) recorded her second goal of the season with a low, left-footed shot into the right corner of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Kalamazoo (6-7-3, 5-2-1)

Kalamazoo went 1-1-0 last week, falling late against Alma Oct. 26, 1-0; the lone goal of the match was scored in the 88th minute by the Scots. Earlier in the week, the Hornets defeated Olivet Oct. 23, 4-1. Libby Munoz scored twice in the win.

Olivet (5-7-3, 0-4-3)

Olivet lost 4-1 to Kalamazoo College in its only game last week. Junior Chelsie Smith scored the Comets' lone goal.

Saint Mary's (5-10-1, 0-6-1)

The Belles came up on the short end of a pair of contests against regionally-ranked opponents in a 2-0 final against league-leading Adrian and a 3-0 match at Hope. Jillian Bowen registered two shots on goal against the Bulldogs, and Rose Stackhouse and Lexi Trombly each posted two shots. Thallia Robles made a season-high 13 saves in goal against Hope on Saturday.

Trine (3-8-3, 0-5-2)

The Thunder lost their only game of the week, a 4-0 loss to Adrian Oct. 26.
