The second circuit of MIAA double-round robin play began last week, with Olivet and Kalamazoo posting 2-0 weeks to shuffle a few teams in the standings. Some of the highlights on the week included:
• Olivet moved into third place in the MIAA standings with a 2-0 week, starting with their 2-1 victory over Adrian. Isabelle Leon (Jr., F, Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored in the first minute of play, and her attempt in the 86th minute resulted in an own goal to lift the Comets, despite being outshot 27-14. In the 5-0 win over Saint Mary's Oct. 8, Ashley Romanowski (Fr., F, St. Clair Shores, Mich.) had three goals and an assist as Olivet scored in the fourth minute to cruise.
• Kalamazoo extended their points lead with back-to-back shutouts and improve their winning streak on the season to nine games. At second-place Hope Oct. 4, Sarah George (So., M/D, Royal Oak, Mich.) scored in the 86th minute to give the Hornets a 1-0 victory; Grace Smith (Sr., GK, Portage, Mich.) made five saves in the shutout. The Hornets then took care of business with a 1-0 win over Trine, with Sydney Spring (Sr., F, Jackson, Mich.) scoring in the 12th minute.
• Albion gathered four points on the road last week, winning at Saint Mary's Oct. 4, 4-0, before a gritty 1-1 draw at Alma Oct. 8. The Brits' Alex Radzville (So., F, Howell, Mich.) had two first-half goals, including one in the first minute of play, against Saint Mary's to boost Albion. Against the higher-seeded Scots Oct. 8, Jenna Urso (Jr., F/M, South Lyon, Mich.) scored in the fourth minute as Albion fired 25 shots against Alma.
• Calvin had just one game on the week, but made good with their 1-0 victory over Trine Oct. 4 to snap a four-game winless streak. Brianna Russell (Sr., F, Plainwell, Mich.) scored the lone goal in the contest in the 18th minute.
