Hope Women's Soccer Plays Alma To Scoreless Draw On Homecoming

The Hope College women's soccer team played Alma to a scoreless draw on a wet and windy homecoming Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The Flying Dutch (14-1-2 overall) settled for a 0-0 tie despite outshooting their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe by a 20-2 margin.

The teams played for 110 minutes, including two 10-minute overtime periods.

Sophomore goalie Mary Clare Theis of East Lansing, Michigan (Haslett HS), did not need to make a save for Hope's 12th shutout of the season.

Theis has recorded all 12 shutouts. She is third all-time in Flying Dutch history and trails only Holly Nestle, who had a school-record 15 shutouts in 2005 and 2003.

Hope is in second place in the MIAA standings with a 11-1-2 record. The Flying Dutch trail Calvin by two points in the league standings, but has played one more game than the Knights.

Hope returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Saint Mary's. Kickoff is 4 p.m. There are two regular-season matches remaining.
