Hope Women's Soccer Wins, Sets Record With 8-0 Start

Forward Rachael Braginton of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville HS), scored in the 82nd minute to lift the unbeaten Hope College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Olivet College on Saturday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The Flying Dutch extended their overall record to 8-0 to set a school record for the longest win streak to start a season. They passed the 2013 team that opened 7-0.

Braginton snapped a scoreless tie with 8 minutes, 48 seconds remaining in regulation. Her team-leading seventh goal of the season came off an assist from sophomore Erin Brophy of West Lafayette, Indiana (West Lafayette HS).

Brophy tops the Flying Dutch this season with six assists.

Sophomore goalie Mary Clare Theis of East Lansing, Michigan (Haslett HS), recorded her fifth  shutout of the season with two saves.

Hope outshot Olivet (5-2, 2-2 MIAA) by a 14-6 margin and forced the Comets to make seven saves.

The longest unbeaten streak for the Flying Dutch is 11 games. The 2003 team started 10-0-1. 

Hope's next match is Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Alma. Kickoff is 4 p.m.
