Hope Women's Soccer Posts Fourth Shutout, Downs Trine 1-0

The cross bounced around the goal before landing at the feet of Hope College soccer player Erin Brophy. She did not miss.

Brophy's first-half goal was all the Flying Dutch needed to win 1-0 at Trine on Monday and remain undefeated on the season.

Hope improved to 6-0 overall and a league-leading 3-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

The goal with 14 minutes, 51 seconds before halftime was the second of the season for Brophy, a sophomore from West Lafayette, Indiana (West Lafayette HS). Junior Rachel de Marigny of Park Ridge, Illinois (Maine Township South HS), picked up the assist.

The Flying Dutch limited Trine (1-4, 0-3 MIAA) to one shot on goal.

Hope's fourth shutout of the season and second in a row saw sophomore goalie Mary Clare Theis of East Lansing, Michigan (Haslett HS), make one save.

The Flying Dutch lead second-place Calvin and Olivet by three points in the standings. Both are 2-0 in MIAA matches.

Hope returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Albion. The Flying Dutch can match their 7-0 start from the 2013 season with a win.
