MIAA Wrestlers Compete at 2024 NCAA Championships

La Crosse, Wis. -- Eight wrestlers from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) competed at the 2024 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, March 15-16, at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Adrian College
  • 174 pounds: Blake Williams started with a tough loss against the fifth seed in a close 10-8 decision.  He then suffered another defeat in the next bout, falling by an 8-4 decision.
  • 184 pounds: Dylan Wellbaum faced the top-seeded wrestler in the first round, resulting in a loss via technical fall.  However, he showed resilience, winning his next three bouts with a 4-1 decision, a quick fall in 2:25, and a dominant 14-3 major decision.  Wellbaum lost to the No. 4 seed in the fifth-place match.
  • 285 pounds: Mason Slocum had a challenging competition, dropping both of his preliminary rounds by fall.
Albion College
  • 149 pounds: Max Honiss faced tough opponents and went 0-2, competing against wrestlers who eventually became All-Americans.
  • 197 pounds: Demond Harrison managed to secure one win, winning his prelim round with a 10-7 decision, but ultimately went 1-2 in the competition.
The University of Olivet
  • 141 pounds: Dylan Phelps faced difficulties and went 0-2 in his matches with a 7-4 decision in the first round and an 8-6 decision in the second match.
  • 285 pounds: Donovan King started strong with a 4-1 victory in his opening match.  However, he faced challenges in the quarterfinals and lost his consolation match.
Trine University
  • 133 pounds: Joey Langeman encountered tough competition, falling to the top seed in the initial round.  In the consolation bracket, Langeman faced another setback, losing his match to the No. 8 seed.
