MIAA Announces Slate of 2023-34 All-MIAA Wrestlers

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2023-24 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) wrestling season, head coaches from the conference's five wrestling-sponsoring institutions voted on All-MIAA awards.

Senior Donovan King of The University of Olivet was voted the 2024 MIAA Most Valuable Wrestler for the second-straight season after going undefeated (4-0) in league heavyweight competition.  This is also the second time in his career that King is earning All-MIAA recognition.

Alma College's Owen Atienza has been honored as the 2024 MIAA Senior Sportsman of the Year.  With an impressive grade-point average of 3.7, Atienza has consistently earned placement on the Dean's List, missing it only once throughout his academic journey.  His commitment to service is evident through his accumulation of 84 service hours and his recent leadership role in overseeing community service projects for Alma's wrestling squad.  Atienza's involvement in Alma's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee spanned three years, during which he served as the Community Outreach Coordinator in 2021-22 and as the Secretary in 2022-23.  Additionally, he held various positions across different organizations during his collegiate tenure, including Athletes Minds Matter Campus Champion, intern at Katie Tobias State Farm, student producer at Bitworks, intern at Long Story Short Media in Washington D.C., Evergreen Grant Documentary Producer, Marketing and Communications Department Student Assistant, and Alma Highland Festival Marketing Project Manager.

Adrian College senior Dylan Wellbaum became a three-time All-MIAA honoree this season.  Five wrestlers received all-conference accolades for the second time in their careers, including Bulldogs Zachary Phifer and Blake Williams, Albion College's Peyton Brooks, and Olivet's King and Tyler Herrema.
