Alma, MI – Jared Groeneveld '15 has been named the next Head Men's Wrestling Coach by Alma College on April 3, 2023 as announced by Vice President/Director of Athletics Sarah Dehring.

"We are extremely pleased to be elevating Jared into this position. His commitment to our wrestling program, and the mission of Alma College, is second to none. We look forward to seeing the new direction that the program will take under his guidance.", said Dehring

Groeneveld had previously been on the Alma Coaching staff as the lead assistant for the past 7 seasons, and had been serving as the Interim Head Men's Wrestling Coach since the departure of his predecessor.

"I am excited for this opportunity to continue coaching here at Alma College. Alma has been my home for almost 11 years between competing and coaching. We have great facilities, coaches, professors and support that will help to help us succeed. It is my goal to continue mentoring young men to be the best they can be on the mat, in the classroom and in the community. I am thankful to all of my mentors and my wife for encouraging me to pursue this career and dream. We have a great foundation here at Alma and we will continue to bring the best student-athletes to Alma. Go Scots!"

During this time he has helped numerous wrestlers achieve NCAA All-Region status, and helped to coach the team to 15 dual meet wins. The team achieved finishes of 17th and 31st at the NCAA Division III Championships as well.

Groeneveld was a part of the first recruiting class of Alma's newly reinstated wrestling program in 2011. While at Alma, he was named an outstanding freshman wrestler, a three-time scholar All-American, Team Captain and a National Qualifier. Prior to attending Alma College, Groeneveld wrestled for Allendale High School where he was a three-time All-State wrestler and State Champion.

After graduating from Alma College, Groeneveld completed his student teaching at Hudsonville High School. During that time, he volunteered with the Hudsonville MYWAY wrestling program and was an assistant wrestling coach at Hudsonville High School. In this role he helped lead the Hudsonville High School team to a top eight finish as a team in the state, along with having a school record six state qualifiers and five conference champions. Groeneveld holds a B.A. in History, Social Studies and Secondary Education from Alma College.
