MIAA Announces Slate of 2022-23 All-MIAA Wrestlers

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- At the conclusion of the 2022-23 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) wrestling season, head coaches from the conference's five wrestling-sponsoring institutions voted on All-MIAA awards.

Junior Donovan King of Olivet College was voted the 2023 MIAA Most Valuable Wrestler after going undefeated (4-0) in league heavyweight competition, followed by two victories at the MIAA Individual Championships on February 4.  King is earning All-MIAA recognition for the first time in his career.  He was named D3wrestle.com's Wrestler of the Week on December 7 and was selected as the MIAA Wrestling Athlete of the Week twice this season.

Olivet senior Zach Potter has earned the second-ever Senior Sportsman of the Year Award.  This honor was created to recognize the wrestler that best exemplifies the multi-dimensional traits of an MIAA and Division III student-athlete.  The criteria for this award includes grade-point average, extracurricular activities, community service, and athletics.

Along with his title of team captain (which he was unanimously voted by his teammates), Potter is an Olivet SAAC Representative, President of the Aspiring Educators Club, a Christian Comets Connect member, the Director of Youth Ministry at Springport Bible Church, an Assistant Coach for girl's varsity soccer, a volunteer wrestling coach, and a substitute teacher at Springport High School.  He has also participated in numerous community service opportunities including the Fall Community Clean Up, the Community Clothing Closet, and a mission trip to LaCenter, Kentucky, for the June 2022 tornado clean up.

Senior Owen Guilford of Olivet became a three-time All-MIAA recipient this season, while Adrian College senior Dylan Wellbaum earned his second All-MIAA accolades.
