Around the MIAA

Adrian

Adrian went undefeated at 4-0 at the Olivet Duals, stretching win streak to five matches and improving to 7-2 overall… the Bulldogs defeated Grand Valley Club (37-14), Muskegon Community College (40-13), Henry Ford Community College (43-12) and Mount St. Joseph University (21-15)… Sophomores Derick Duvall (165 pounds), Isaiah Espinoza (285), Devon Pingel (197) and freshman Kyle Emery (184) led Adrian by going 4-0 apiece…Sophomore Elijah Sanchez and freshman Coleton Wiegers split time at 133 and both came away with two victories against no defeats… On the day, Adrian compiled 10 pins including Espinoza with three…Adrian trailed MSJ 15-6 halfway through, but the Bulldogs reeled off wins in the final five bouts—all by decision—to get the win over the Lions… Pingel defeated MSJ's Antonio McCloud, 9-6, in a match-up of nationally-ranked competitors (No. 9 vs 5) as the latter was a 2019 NCAA All-American…Pingel's victory gave AC an 18-15 lead…Adrian was missing four starters from the regular lineup…the five-match winning streak is the longest in the modern era (since 2015-16) and believed to be the longest in program history since the 1969-70 squad won six in a row.


No. 12 Alma

Alma went 1-2 at the Olivet College Comet Wrestling Duals. The Scots defeated Heidelberg University 24-19 while falling to Millikin University 34-5 and Ohio Northern 22-16. Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich.) went 3-0 on the day winning by major decision, technical fall, and pinfall. Austin Wieczorek (Kentwood, Mich.), Noah Lopez (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland), and Jacob Ransom (Traverse City, Mich.) all won by major decision against Heidelberg. Austin Fox (Fort Worth, Texas) pinned his opponent in 31 seconds to give the Scots the lead 20-19 before Ransom sealed the victory. Trent Lashuay (Saint Johns, Mich.) won by technical fall against Ohio Northern. Ransom had two takedowns in the third period. With the match being tied 2-2, he had a takedown and a one-point penalty in the last five seconds to win 5-2.


Olivet

Olivet hosted 10 other schools for its annual Comet Duals Nov. 23 at the Cutler Event Center. The Comets finished the day with a 3-1 record, defeated Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 27-16; Ohio Northern University, 28-13; and Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 31-14, but fell to Millikin (Ill.) University, 32-7. Junior Cole Hersch had a 3-0 record at 157 pounds. He scored bonus points in each win. Senior Drew Mandell went 3-1 at 149 pounds. He had a pin, injury default and technical fall. Junior Dylan Briggs also had a 3-1 record at 165 pounds. His three wins were all major decisionsSophomore heavyweight Owen Miller won his two matches with first-period pins. The Comets' second-team wrestlers posted a 4-0 record, beating three junior colleges and one club team.


Trine

Trine defeated Ancilla in its only action of the week (45-5)...Owen Conklin, Nick Miller and Luke Carver all recorded pins in their individual matches.
