Around the MIAA

Adrian

Over the weekend, Adrian was tested at the 12-team Mount Union Invitational that featured the NCAA Division III No. 5-nationally ranked Purple Raiders and several Division II scholarship programs including No. 23 Gannon and No. 24 Bellarmine…the Bulldogs responded with 16 student-athletes who placed over two divisions: open and freshman…Sophomore Spencer Sillman and freshman Dylan Wellbaum won individual titles at 166 and 175 pounds in the freshman division to pace the Bulldogs, while junior Noah Nieman—the first MIAA Wrestler of the Week of the season--continued his strong start by finishing in third place in a competitive 149-pound open division…. Sophomore Drew McCullough was the runner-up at 286 and freshman Kyle Emery duplicated the same placement at 185…the Bulldogs return home this Saturday to host the first-ever Adrian Duals at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center field house, competing against Fontbonne, Penn State Behrend, Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Central (Iowa).


No. 14 Alma

Alma came up short against Davenport in its home opener on Wednesday (Nov. 6). On Saturday, Austin Fox (Fort Worth, Texas) finished first in the 197 ponds bracket at the Muskegon Community College Invitational while three other Scots took second in their weight classes. Fox won his first two matches by technical fall and the last by pinfall in 44 seconds. Will Kidder (Shelby, Mich.), Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich.) and Grayson Richter (Durand, Mich.) all finished second with three wins in their respective classes; 133, 165, and 184 pounds.


Olivet

Olivet had 14 wrestlers finish in the top six of their respective weight class. The breakdown was four champions, two runner-ups, three third-place finishers, one fourth-place, two fifth-place finishers and two sixth-place finishers. Winning titles were sophomore Reese Wallis at 141 pounds, junior Cole Hersch at 157 pounds, junior Dylan Briggs at 165 pounds and freshman Donovan King at 285 pounds. King broke Olivet's record for the fastest pin in the 285-pound weight class with a 24 second-pin in the semifinals. Senior Drew Mandell broke his own school record for the fastest-pin in the 149-pound weight, as he had a 19-second fall.


Trine

Competed in both the Muskegon Community College Duals and the Muskegon Open...Thunder finished 1-1 at the Muskegon Duals with a 33-19 win against Triton (Ill.), but fell to Grand Valley State, 25-23...Nevan Freestone and Luke Carver both had two pins in dual competition...At the Muskegon Open, Trine had two wrestlers place in their respective weight classes in Matthew Abraham who placed fourth at 197 pounds and Sam Burge placed fifth in his 184-pound weight class.
