Adrian

Sophomore Devon Pingel (184 pounds) is Adrian’s first MIAA all-conference wrestler since Jim Bicknell in 1979 after the College reinstated the sport at varsity status for the 2015-16 campaign…In Pingel's first season at Adrian, the sophomore made an immediate impact in the Adrian lineup after competing as a freshman at NCAA Division I Cleveland State…Pingel has recorded a team-best 25-5 record, nine pins, and has been ranked in the top-10 for most of the season by D3wrestle.com, and currently lists in the "contender" category (11th)…during MIAA-only competition, Pingel won a 9-2 decision and pinned an opponent in just 79 seconds…the Bulldogs registered 85 points to earn fourth out of 12 teams at the 2019 Mid-States Invitational, where nine individuals placed… 133-pound sophomore Malachi Greene and 165-freshman Derick Duvall led the way with a pair of runner-up finishes...the nine placers equals the school record from last season’s event…Adrian is idle this week and preparing for the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23.

Alma

The Scots headed down to Trine Feb. 7 in its final MIAA dual of the season and lost, 21-18. Juniors Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich.) and Isaac Nave (Onaway, Mich.) as well as freshmen Jayce Kuehnlein (St. Louis, Mich.) and Dylan Seaton (Port Huron, Mich.) all picked up wins for Alma. The team then hosted the Mid-States Invitational Saturday (Feb. 9) and took second-place thanks in part to Ladd, junior Zachary Cooper (Chippewa Hills, Mich.) and sophomore Austin Fox (Fort Worth, Texas) all being the champion wrestler of their weight class. Eight other Scots also placed in the invite as Alma now prepares for regionals later this month.

No. 15 Olivet

Led by first-place finish by junior Nicholas Worden at 174 pounds, the Comets finished in third-place at the 2019 Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Alma College and inside the Art Smith Arena in Alma. Fourteen of the 15 Olivet wrestlers placed in the top eight of his respective weight class. Worden had a 4-0 record, with a technical fall and three minor decisions. Freshman Owen Miller was 3-1 to finish as the runner-up in the 285-pound bracket; Miller's wins were a pin, forfeit and a minor decision. Finishing in third-place were freshman Hunter Murphy at 149 pounds, junior Frank Mercurio at 165 pounds and junior Clayton Higelmire at 184 pounds.

Trine

Trine won both dual meets for the week against Alma and Manchester...The Thunder trailed in both matches, including 18-0 against Manchester, and came back to win...Chase Gibson recorded two pins against Alma and Manchester, winning both in 37 and 39 seconds...Trine finished sixth at Mid-States Invitational...Owen Conklin, Nick Miller and Gibson all had a pair of victories to lead Trine.
