HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Hope College women's lacrosse program claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) championship title after concluding the 2023 season with an unblemished record of 7-0 in league play. This is the first MIAA title in program history for the Flying Dutch.
Hope topped off its season with a 20-8 victory over Kalamazoo College on Saturday, April 29. Eight players concluded the season with double figures in points including the following: freshman attacker Julia Brown (24 goals, 12 assists), junior midfielder Molly Frederickson (13 goals, 14 assists), junior attacker Elena Salazar (21 goals, 4 assists), sophomore attacker Kerrigan Brown (13 goals, 10 assists), sophomore midfielder Juli Kirkpatrick (14 goals, 8 assists), freshman midfielder Caleigh Randall (14 goals, 3 assists), freshman midfielder Sydney LaPrairie (10 goals, 1 assist), and sophomore attacker Ruthie Anderson (10 goals).
Hope will compete as the No. 1 seed in the 2023 MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament, which is slated for May 3 (semifinals) and May 6 (championship).
Joining the Flying Dutch in the four-team MIAA Tournament are No. 2 Alma College (5-2), No. 3 Saint Mary's College (5-2), and No. 4 Calvin University (5-2). The three-way tie was broken by the manual rule of goal differential, followed by head-to-head.
Hope will host fourth-seeded Calvin in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m., while No. 2 Alma will host No. 3 Saint Mary's at 7:00 p.m.. The highest-remaining seed will host the final contest on May 6.
