Around the MIAA

Adrian (8-5, 3-3)

The Adrian College women’s lacrosse team had a pair of games last week, with vastly different results. The Bulldogs fell to Mount Union, 19-2, on Tuesday before blanking Olivet 22-0 on Friday for senior day. Fifteen different Bulldogs scored against Olivet, four of which scored the first goal of their careers. AC took 51 shots in the game, setting a program record, and finished with 24 caused turnovers, the second-most in a game in program history. The Black and Gold have now secured a winning season for the first time since the 2014 season.


Albion (12-3, 7-0)

Albion defeated Kalamazoo and Hope last week to secure the home field for a MIAA Tournament semifinal contest on May 1. The Britons will square off with Saint Mary’s this week with the MIAA regular season championship hanging in the balance…Carly Schwarz (Clinton Township, Mich.) stuffed the box score with six goals, five assists, 14 groundballs and six draw controls…Darcy Muns (Lake Orion, Mich.) added six goals, two assists and three groundballs.

Alma (3-9, 0-6)

Did not compete.


Calvin (10-6, 5-2)

Calvin defeated rival Hope 7-5 and fell to Saint Mary’s 19-10 and to North Central 13-12 for a 1-2 week. Lauryn Slachter and Genevieve Schneeman hit 100 career goals each. Alyssa Gagnon hit 100 career ground balls, while Ellis Chalfant hit 400 career saves.


Hope (8-5, 3-3)

The Hope College women's lacrosse team dropped a pair of MIAA matches last week: 7-5 at home to Calvin and 12-8 at Albion. Sophomore Carly Pieri led the Flying Dutch with three goals in each match. Goalie Laurel Frederickson tied a career-high with 19 saves against Albion.

Kalamazoo (4-10, 2-4)

Kalamazoo split its games this week with a loss to Albion (11-8) and a road victory over Trine Saturday (14-7). Rachel Madar tallied six goals in each game to bring her season total up to 53. Madar also collected 12 draw controls in the two games and is now one behind the leader in the MIAA. The Hornets will conclude their regular season with home games against Olivet Thursday and Adrian on Saturday.


Olivet (0-9, 0-6)

The Olivet College women's lacrosse team lost a home game to Trine, 22-3, before getting shut out at Adrian, 22-0. The Comets will play their final two games in school history this week.


Saint Mary's (10-5, 6-0)

The Belles took a 19-10 over Calvin in their lone contest of the week. Seven different players scored at least one goal for the balanced offensive attack for Saint Mary's. Bridget Kane tallied four goals, an assist, five draw controls, three caused turnovers, and a ground ball. Erin Doyle added four goals to break her own single-season scoring record with 95 on the year. Liv Heppeler had a career-high six ground balls, and Emily Kraker registered 11 saves in goal and had two ground balls in the win.


Trine (6-8, 2-4)

The Thunder went split their pair of games during the week. They started by picking up a lopsided victory over host Olivet by the score of 22-3. Sophomore Kristin John (South Bend, Ind.) led the way in the game with four goals and three assists. The team then struggled during a rain-soaked contest against Kalamazoo dropping it 14-7.
