Merucci named head women’s lacrosse coach at Olivet College

OLIVET, Mich. -- Chris Merucci has been named head women’s lacrosse coach at Olivet College, according to an announcement by Athletic Director Ryan Shockey.

"I am very honored and extremely pleased to be joining the Olivet College family as the head women’s lacrosse coach," says Merucci. "The excitement, commitment and support for student-athlete here at Olivet is truly inspiring. From the time I stepped foot on campus, I noticed a resounding feeling of positivity, unity and strong family atmosphere.

"My team and I are excited to hit the ground running this season. I promise we will compete to the final whistle in every game and never lose sight of the importance of believing in ourselves, empowering each other, supporting one another and most importantly, enjoying the wonderful journey of being a collegiate student-athlete at Olivet."

Merucci comes to Olivet after spending the 2017 season as the assistant girls’ varsity lacrosse coach at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood School. While there, he helped the Cranes win the first-ever Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division II championship in school history. In 2016, Merucci was the head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach at Livonia Ladywood High School. He led the Blazers to the Catholic High School League championship title and MHSAA regional final.

Merucci attended Michigan State University for three years before finishing a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1996. He graduated from Detroit Catholic Central High School in 1990. He played lacrosse for the Shamrocks for three seasons.

"I am extremely happy to have Chris join our coaching staff," said Shockey. "He brings outstanding coaching experience at the high school and club level in the state of Michigan, which should help him immensely in this position. Overall, I am looking forward to what Chris can do with our program right now and in the future."

Merucci currently resides in South Lyon, with his wife, Kathy and two children, Michael and Isabella.
