OLIVET, Mich. – Kaitlin Feeney has been tabbed as the new head women’s lacrosse coach at Olivet College, according to an announcement by Athletic Director Ryan Shockey.
“I am excited for Kaitlin to be our next women’s lacrosse coach,” said Shockey. “She has great coaching experience, and has also played lacrosse at the NCAA Division III level, so she understands what it means to be a student-athlete at this level.”
Feeney most recently spent the 2016 season as the head women’s lacrosse coach at West Virginia Wesleyan University (WVWU). While there, she led the Lady Bobcats to a 6-9 overall record, including a mark in 3-3 against Mountain East Conference rivals. The six wins were the second-most in the five-year history of the recognized NCAA Division II WVWU program.
Prior to that, Feeney spent two seasons as the co-head coach for the University of Central Florida (UCF) club women’s lacrosse team in Orlando, Florida. While there, she helped the Knights post a 16-8 record against some tough competition like University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Miami and University of Georgia. In 2015, Feeney was named the Southeastern Women’s Lacrosse League Coach of the Year.
A native of Amherst, New Hampshire, Feeney graduated earned a bachelor’s degree in health science and sports medicine from Guilford (N.C.) College in 2011. While there, she was a four-year varsity letterwinner on the women’s lacrosse team and served as a team captain during her season. Feeney completed a master’s degree in sports and exercise science with a coaching emphasis from UCF in summer 2015.
“I am so excited to join the Olivet College athletic department,” said Feeney. “Having played at the Division III level and coaching last season at the Division II level, I can honestly say I am thrilled to be getting back to DIII. I very much enjoy the atmosphere a small liberal arts college brings to both the athletic and academic experience for student-athletes.”
“I am eager for the school year to begin so we can get back to playing and working hard to compete at the highest level possible,” continued Feeney. “My focus this year will be on developing the fundamentals and putting strong systems in place with the team. By advancing the play of each individual team member, it changes and improves the team as a unit. The systems I plan to incorporate this season will be a great match for the current student-athletes and will ultimately create a successful program this year and in the future.”
