Around the MIAA (through Sept. 8)

Adrian placed eighth at the Defiance College Fall Invite, led by Junior Hailey Scott (80+81) and senior Brooke Symons (81+80) led the Bulldogs with an identical 161 for a tie for 13th place out of 73 individuals.

Albion

In three rounds this far, the range Grace Hoffman’s score has been only four strokes. The sophomore from Flint, Mich., started the season with an 83 in an Aug. 29 round at Hope, and posted scores of 87 and 86 in the Kyle Campbell Invitational at The Medalist Golf Club last weekend…Bailey Downs, a junior from Munising, Mich., turned in a collegiate best score (88) in the second round of the Kyle Campbell Invitational.

Alma

The Scots concluded the two-day Defiance Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 8) from the White Pines Golf Course. The Scots finished with an overall team score of 666. The score was good enough to place seventh overall. Grace College was the winner of the tournament with an overall score of 613. Individually the Scots were led by freshman Morgan Yates (Shepherd, Mich.). Yates had a combined two-day score of 160, finishing in a tie for 11th place.

Calvin

Calvin finished seventh in a field of 12 teams at the two-day, 36-hole Kyle Campbell Invitational hosted by Olivet at the Medalist Golf Club. Calvin finished the 36-hole tournament with a final total of 695 strokes. The Knights fired a round of 346 on Friday and then came back with a score of 346 on Saturday. Sophomore Emma Dykhouse (Byron Center, Mich.) led the way for Calvin with a round of 79 on Saturday after shooting 85 on Friday.

Hope

In their second and final day in Olivet College's Kyle Campbell Invitational on Saturday, the Hope College women's golf team played its way into the clubhouse 20 strokes better than the day before. On Friday, the Flying Dutch shot 350 for sixth place and on Saturday, they fired a 330. The improvement leaped Coach Greg Stafford's Flying Dutch two places higher in the standings and landed the squad in fourth place overall at the event's conclusion at the The Medalist Golf Club, Country Club in Marshall, Michigan. Junior Abigail Meder (Lansing, Mich.), led Hope both days with rounds of 84 and 81 (165) to tie for 15th place.

Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo finished 12th at the Olivet Invitational at The Medalist over the weekend. The Hornets shot 401 on Friday before improving by nine strokes with 392 on Saturday. Darby Scott finished second overall with a two-day total of 154 (76-78). Kalamazoo is scheduled to begin conference play on Sept. 14 at Alma.

Olivet

Olivet finished in third-place at the Kyle Campbell Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Comets at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. Olivet posted a two-day score of 670 strokes. Senior Nicole Deweyert was named to the all-tournament team for the second time this year. Deweyert posted a two-day score of 155 strokes, including a 78 in the second round. Senior Taylor Elley carded a two-day total of 161 strokes.

Saint Mary's

The Belles fired a 317 and won the Olivet College Kyle Campbell Invitational by 16 strokes at the Medalist Golf Club. Hunter Kehoe was the tournament medalist after a 77 on Saturday gave the junior a two-day total of 151. Sydney Hruskoci matched Kehoe's score on Saturday with a 77 and was tied for sixth overall with a 161. Summer Stillson (81, t-12th) and Hannah Finley (82, t-12th) wrapped up the team score.

Trine

Trine placed eighth at the Olivet Kyle Campbell Invitational...Sophomore Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky.) led Trine individually with a total of 168 strokes (91+77=168) and placed 18th overall.
