Around the MIAA

Adrian

Adrian wrapped up its fall season with the MIAA Fall Final, coming in ninth place with a 371 at the weather-shortened event…Junior Brooke Symons (79) and sophomore transfer Hailey Scott (87) gave Adrian a pair of top—25 finishes on the Bedford Valley Country Club course…Symons led AC with an 84.4 in MIAA action, ranking 13th on the overall leaderboard…the Bulldogs will resume their schedule in the spring and the list of events will be announced soon.


Albion

Albion shot a team score of 336 and finished third overall in the MIAA standings. The Britons will be one of four teams to compete in the MIAA NCAA Spring Qualifier.


Alma

Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) of the Alma College women's golf team was named a first-team All-MIAA performer as the fall season came to a close over the weekend. The Scots finished in fifth place, 10 strokes behind fourth-place Calvin after five conference tournaments. Saint Mary's, Hope, Albion, and Calvin will compete in the spring for the chance to go to the national tournament.


Calvin

Calvin had a third-place score of 342 strokes on Friday to finish in fourth place in the final MIAA overall fall standings that include four MIAA regular season rounds and the lone MIAA Fall Final round. The Knights finished two strokes behind Albion in the final overall team standings and 10 strokes ahead of fifth-place Alma. Senior Nicole VanderYacht was named the recipient of the MIAA Sportsmanship Award, marking the first time a Calvin women's golfer has received the award. Nicole VanderYacht and sophomore Linnea McDonnough had Calvin's best scores on Friday with rounds of 84. Calvin will compete in MIAA Spring Tournament.


Hope

The Hope College women's golf team finished runner-up in the MIAA standings for the 2018 fall season after rain washed out the final round on Saturday. The Flying Dutch finished 90 holes of league play with a total of 1,603. Saint Mary's repeated as champion with a total of 1,553. Hope qualifies for next spring's NCAA Division III Championship qualifier. The field will include Saint Mary's, third-place Albion and fourth-place Calvin. The Flying Dutch placed fourth in the MIAA Fall Final after shooting a 343 on Friday at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek. Sophomore Jordyn Rioux of Farmington, Michigan (Livonia Ladywood HS) tied for ninth place individually Friday with a 9-over-par 81.


Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo College women's golf team is in eighth place after the first day of the MIAA Fall Final at Bedford Valley. Kalamazoo shot 370 on Friday, one stroke ahead of Adrian. Darby Scott tied for sixth overall with a 79. Cydney Martell (90), Heather Muir (97) and Claire Kalina (104) were the other three scorers for Kalamazoo. Saturday's final round was cancelled due to rain. Darby Scott was recognized with All-MIAA Second Team honors.


Olivet

The Olivet College women's golf team tied for fifth-place at the MIAA Fall Final. Nicole Deweyert shared fourth-place in the player standings with a 78.


Saint Mary's

The Belles won the fifth MIAA round of the season with a 304 on day one of the MIAA Fall Final. Lauren Read was the round medalist with a two-over par 74. Day two was canceled due to course conditions, giving Saint Mary's their second consecutive MIAA Championship. The Belles had five First-Team All-MIAA honorees, led by MIAA Most Valuable Golfer Hunter Kehoe.


Trine

Placed seventh at MIAA Fall Final. Jenna Doumont led Trine with a round of 83 strokes.
