Around the MIAA

Adrian

The Adrian College women's golf team opened the MIAA season on Sep. 13 at the MIAA Jamboree #1 at the Medalist Golf Club. The Bulldogs shot a combined 365 for eighth place (tying with Kalamazoo College). Junior Brooke Symons, who was recently named the MIAA Player of the Week, paced Adrian with an 80 which was good for fifth-place tie. Sophomore Hailey Scott had an 84 and T-13th place finish to give the team a pair of top-20 showings. Next up were senior Libby Dusenbery (100, 46th), freshman Alexis Weston (101, 47th) and sophomore Hannah McKee (105, 51st). The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Sep. 22 (1 p.m.), for the MIAA Jamboree #2 hosted by Saint Mary's (Ind.) at the Knollwood Golf Club. On the season, Symons leads the Bulldogs with an 84.6 stroke average and is ranked tied for fifth in the MIAA with an 80.


Albion

Albion finished third in the MIAA Jamboree at The Medalist last Thursday. Albion finished as high as third in one MIAA round last season, the first round of the Fall Final at Bedford Valley (336). Madison Kroetsch is tied for ninth on the individual leader board after a round of 82 at The Medalist.


Alma

The Alma women's golf team shot 353 and 341 in two tournaments this weekend, winning the Alma Invitational by one stroke over Aquinas. The Scots shot an average of 83.75 in the tournament and were led by freshman Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Adlai E. Stevenson) with an 83. Senior Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion) shot a week-low 78 at the MIAA Jamboree on Thursday (Sept. 13). The Scots sit in fifth place after the first MIAA tournament, four strokes behind Olivet and seven behind Albion.


Calvin

Calvin took seventh place with 358 strokes at MIAA Jamboree #1, where freshman Emma Dykhouse led Calvin with a round of 84 that tied her for 13th place individually. Calvin took second place at the Hope Invite with a score of 346. Senior Nicole VanderYacht had a season-best score of 83 to lead the Knights. The Knights took sixth place at the Alma Invitational with a score of 374 strokes; freshman Emme Darkowski was Calvin's top finisher with a round of 88.


Hope

The Hope College women’s golf team made the most of the home-course advantage. The Flying Dutch won their four-team invitational Saturday afternoon by posting a team score of 329 at The Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck and finishing 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Calvin College. Sophomore Abigail Meder of Lansing, Michigan (Catholic Central) fired a 5-over-par 77 to claim medalist honors for the second consecutive tournament. She went 1-over on the front nine. On Thursday, Meder carded a 2-over-par 74 at the season-opening MIAA Jamboree at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan.


Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo College women’s golf team competed in matches hosted by Alma and Albion this week. The Hornets tied for an eighth place finish at Alma with a score of 365. Darby Scott led Kalamazoo with an 81 which also ties her for what previously was the second-lowest round in school history. Kalamazoo finished in a tie for fifth place at Albion on Saturday. Scott led the Hornets again by finishing in a tie for the second lowest score overall with an 82, one stroke out of first place.


Olivet

The Olivet College women's golf team started last week with a fourth-place finish at the first MIAA Jamboree. The Comets ended the week with a 10th-place finish at the Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic. In Sunday's second round at IWU, Olivet posted a season-best team score at 319 strokes. Individually, all four Comets also had season-bests, led by Taylor Elley's four-over par 76.


Saint Mary's

The Belles finished six strokes ahead of the field for first place at the opening MIAA Jamboree of the season last week. Summer Stillson paced the Belles with a 78 to finish tied for second place in the field of 54 golfers. Hunter Kehoe (81), Sydney Hruskoci (82), and Taylor Kehoe (85) wrapped up the win.


Trine

Junior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) shot a 79 to lead the Trine University women's golf team at the first Michigan Intecollegiate Athletic Association event of the season at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich.
