Hope and Trine to Compete in 2023 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For the sixteenth time since the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) began sponsoring women's basketball in 1985, two teams will represent the MIAA in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

Hope College earned the conference's automatic berth after winning the 2023 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament title.  The Flying Dutch recorded a 14-2 mark in league play to clinch the co-championship and currently have an overall record of 25-2.  Hope will host a four-team pod with competition beginning on March 3.  The Flying Dutch will play St. Norbert at 8:00 p.m. this Friday.  Baldwin Wallace and Wartburg are also part of the pod hosted in Holland.  This is Hope's fifteenth trip to the NCAA postseason in the last sixteen seasons, excluding the 2021 NCAA Championships which were cancelled due to COVID-19.

Trine University received an at-large bid into the tournament after receiving a share of the MIAA regular-season title with a 14-2 record (21-6 overall).  This is the Thunder's fifth-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.  Trine will travel to Loras for a 6:15 p.m. first-round contest against WashU on Friday, March 3.  Knox rounds out the four teams in the pod.

Sixteen first/second-round sites will be conducted March 3-4.  Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites March 10-11.  Winners of the four sectional sites will advance to the national semifinals March 18. All games, except the semifinals and final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions.  The semifinals will be conducted at Oosting Gymnasium in Hartford, Connecticut, hosted by Trinity College (Connecticut).

For only the second time in the 41-year history of NCAA women’s basketball, the NCAA Division II and III national championships will be decided at the Women’s Final Four site.  Both games will be Saturday, April 1, at the American Airlines Center, with the Division III championship game tipping at 11 a.m. Central time, followed by the Division II title game at 2:30 p.m. Central time.  Both games will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
