Hope and Trine Named 2023 MIAA Women's Basketball Co-Champions for Second-Straight Year

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Hope College and Trine University women's basketball programs share the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular-season title for the second-consecutive season.  Both teams concluded the 2023 campaign with a record of 14-2.

This is the fourth-straight league title for the Flying Dutch and the 18th MIAA crown under head coach Brian Morehouse since 1996-97.  Going into the MIAA Tournament, Hope has an overall record of 23-2.

Senior forward Savannah Feenstra led the Flying Dutch in averaging 14.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per contest during league competition, while leading the conference with a total of 68 made free throws.  Senior guards Claire Baguley (12.6 PPG) and Ella McKinney (10.9 PPG) also averaged in double digits for the Flying Dutch.  Baguley leads the MIAA with a .567 three-point field goal percentage and an .850 free-throw percentage.

This is the Thunder's second-straight regular-season title and the third under head coach Andy Rang.  Trine has an overall record of 20-5 going into the MIAA Tournament.

Sophomore guard Sidney Wagner averaged a team-best and league-best 17.0 points per game during the regular-season, while senior guard Makayla Ardis also averaged in double digits (13.9).  Wagner is tied for the conference lead in total points with 272.  Freshman forward Abby Sanner led the Thunder with 6.1 rebounds per contest and senior guard Alyssa Argyle dished out a team-high 3.3 assists per game.

The six-team 2023 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament will begin with the First Round games this Tuesday.  The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will serve as hosts, while the first- and second-seeded teams receive a bye.  Semifinals are slated for Friday, February 24, at the No. 1 seed's institution and the championship game will take place on Saturday, February 25.
