Schoonveld Tabbed Player of the Year by WBCA; Schoonveld and Bieniewicz Named All-Americans

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Kenedy Schoonveld of Hope College headlines the 2022 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III All-America Team, while Trine University's Tara Bieniewicz also received All-America honors.

Schoonveld was tabbed Player of the Year and an All-American by the WBCA on March 22.  The fifth-year senior guard closed her collegiate chapter by leading the Flying Dutch to the national championship title on Saturday.  Prior to sharing the regular-season crown and clincing the MIAA Tournament title, Schoonveld became a three-time MIAA Most Valuable Player and a five-time All-MIAA honoree.  She was also deemed the D3hoops.com Player of the Year.  Schoonveld concluded the season with 141 field goals, a .491 field-goal percentage, a three-point field-goal percentage of .418, and 367 points.

Bieniewicz, a senior guard for the Thunder, led her team to the national semifinals for the first time in program history.  Prior to the national tournament, Bieniewicz became a three-time All-MIAA honoree after assisting Trine to a share of the regular-season title.  Last week, Bieniewicz was named to the All-Region 7 First Team by D3hoops.com and was deemed a Fourth Team All-American by the organization over the weekend.  Bieniewicz concluded the season as the league leader with 85 triples.  She also finished top five in the conference with 753 minutes played, a .405 three-point field-goal percentage, and 343 points.

The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in five of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, and III, NAIA, two-year college and high school). The Player of the Year and the 10-member Coaches’ All-America team in each division are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division. The Wade Trophy is presented to the best player in NCAA Division I.

"The WBCA is pleased to name Kenedy Schoonveld as the 2022 WBCA NCAA Division III Player of the Year,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “She is most deserving of this distinguished honor. The WBCA applauds Kenedy for her hard work, dedication and contributions to the game during the 2021-22 season.”
