Hope and Trine Share 2022 MIAA Women's Basketball Title

FREELAND, Mich. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced the Hope College and Trine University women's basketball programs as 2022 MIAA co-champions.  Both squads concluded the regular season with a record of 15-1.

This is the third-straight league title for the Flying Dutch and the 17th MIAA crown under head coach Brian Morehouse since beginning in 1996-97.  Going into the MIAA Tournament, Hope has an overall record of 23-1.

Fifth-year senior Kenedy Schoonveld led the Flying Dutch, averaging in double digits with 10.0 points per game.  Classmate Olivia Voskuil leads the league with 39 steals, while Schoonveld is ranked second with a .449 three-point field goal percentage.

This is the Thunder's first regular-season title since 2019 and the second under head coach Andy Rang.  Trine has an overall record of 22-2 going into the MIAA Tournament.

Senior Kayla Wildman led the Thunder with 11.0 points per contest and 176 total points.  She concluded the regular season second in the league with 35 made triples.  Kelsy Taylor leads defensively with a team-best 5.5 rebounds per game.  She is ranked second in the MIAA with a .529 field-goal percentage.

The eight team 2022 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament will begin with the quarterfinal games this Wednesday.  The highest seed of each matchup will host that contest.  Semifinals are slated for Friday, February 25, and the championship game will take place on Saturday, February 26.
