Hope's Schoonveld Named D3hoops.com All-Region 7 Player of the Year; Hope's Morehouse and Trine's Rang Tabbed Region 7 Coaches of the Year

Hope's Schoonveld Named D3hoops.com All-Region 7 Player of the Year; Hope's Morehouse and Trine's Rang Tabbed Region 7 Coaches of the Year

Six women's basketball players from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) were named to All-Region 7 teams by D3hoops.com, including Hope College's Kenedy Schoonveld who was selected Player of the Year.  Brian Morehouse of Hope and Trine University's Andy Rang were both deemed Region 7 Coaches of the Year.

Schoonveld, a fifth-year senior guard for the Flying Dutch, earned the title of 2022 MIAA Most Valuable Player for the third-straight year after leading Hope to the co-championship title and the MIAA Tournament crown.  Schoonveld also became a five-time All-MIAA honoree.  She is currently ranked top five in the conference in field goals (132), field-goal percentage (.504), points (347), and points per 40 minutes (22.5).

Trine senior guard Tara Bieniewicz earned First Team All-Region honors after assisting the Thunder to the co-championship title this season and the No. 1 seed in the MIAA Tournament.  Bieniewicz became a three-time All-MIAA recipient this season.  She currently leads the conference with 84 three-point field goals.  Bieniewicz is also in the MIAA's top four with a .412 three-point field-goal percentage and 340 points.

Fifth-year senior Olivia Voskuil was the third MIAA player named to the All-Region First Team.  Voskuil was voted the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Year for her fourth-consecutive season and is a four-time All-MIAA honoree.  She currently leads the league with 77 steals and 65 blocks.  Voskuil is also ranked second in the MIAA with 137 defensive rebounds and fourth in both field goals (129) and field-goal percentage (.487).

Calvin senior forward Gabby Timmer was named to the All-Region Second Team.  Timmer became a four-time All-MIAA honoree after leading the Knights to an overall record of 19-8, including an 11-5 mark in league play.  She is currently the conference leader in the following categories:  field goals (207), field-goal percentage (.558), offensive rebounds (94), defensive boards (181), total rebounds (275), rebounds per contest (10.2), blocks (65), points (505), points per game (18.7), and points per 40 minutes (30.2).

Thunder senior guard Kayla Wildman earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team.  Wildman became a three-time All-MIAA recipient following the 2021-22 regular season.  So far this year, Wildman has contributed a total of 53 three-point field goals and 272 points.

Sydney Muller, a senior guard for Hope, was selected to the All-Region Third Team.  Muller became a two-time All-MIAA honoree after earning a spot on the Second Team this season.  She is currently ranked top five in the league in field-goal percentage (.464), free throws (69), free-throw percentage (.697), and assists (69).

Hope head coach Brian Morehouse was tabbed Co-Coach of the Year for Region 7 in his 27th season at the helm of the Flying Dutch, along with Trine head coach Andy Rang who is in his fourth season leading the Thunder.

All MIAA players selected to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection.
 
Hope and Trine will face each other in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals on Thursday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m.  The game will be held at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
