The No. 1-seeded Hope College women's basketball team was crowned the 2021 MIAA Tournament champion after winning 64-54 against No. 2 Trine University on Saturday, March 6th, at DeVos Fieldhouse. The Flying Dutch concluded the season with their 45th-consecutive victory.
Seniors Kenedy Schoonveld and Sydney Muller led the Flying Dutch with 11 points each. Senior Olivia Voskuil and sophomore Meg Morehouse led in rebounds with a game high of six boards each. Voskuil also blocked a game-best three shots and tallied a game-high five steals. Hope had a 36-35 edge in boards and earned 33 points from off the bench.
Trine junior Tara Bieniewicz scored a game-best 19 points, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Bieniewicz, sophomore Makayla Ardis, and junior Rachel Stewart all grabbed a team high of five rebounds each. Ardis also dished out a game-high eight assists. The Thunder led 15-12 in helpers, had a .429 (9-of-21) three-point percentage, and went 9-for-13 (.692) from the charity stripe.
