Around the MIAA 

Adrian (9-16, 3-13)

Adrian closed its season with home losses to Alma (63-45) on Wednesday and Calvin (55-52) on Saturday…three-year Alivia Kondrath was honored before the game against the Knights for Senior Day, scoring 10 points in her final Bulldogs appearance…junior Sha’Trice Graves ends as the MIAA regular-season champion for rebounds, averaging 10.6 per game--which breaks her previous high of 8.5 set in 2018-19 as a sophomore…Graves set the Adrian career blocks record this season, pushing her total to 163…She also currently ranks fourth in school history with 578 rebounds, passing Dawn Brooks who had 574 from 1989-93…Bulldogs are scheduled to return four starters among 18 student-athletes that saw action this winter in 2020-21.

NR/RV Albion (20-5, 12-4)

Alma (12-13, 7-9)

Junior Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich.) was dominant for the Scots in a big 70-58 win over Kalamazoo College Feb. 22. It secures a postseason berth for the Scots for the second straight season. Brandt led all players with 19 points and 17 rebounds, including six offensive boards. It's her seventh double-double of the year, third in her last five games, and the most rebounds she's ever had in a collegiate game. This came after putting up 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 65-45 win over Adrian Feb. 19. The Scots pulled away from both the Bulldogs and Hornets in the second half, outscoring their opponents 80-47 in both games. Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich.) led all players with 23 points on 6-of-7 shooting and 9-of-12 from the free throw line against Adrian. Oretha Humphries (Detroit, Mich.) nearly notched her first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds against Kalamazoo.

Calvin (16-9, 10-6)

Calvin women’s basketball went 1-0 this past week with a bye on Wednesday and win over Adrian on Saturday with a score of 55-22. Sophomore Gabby Timmer finished with another double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while freshmen Leah Harris had 12 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. The Knights finished the regular season with an overall record of 16-9 and 10-6 in the MIAA earning them fourth place in the standings.

No. 2/2 Hope (25-0, 16-0)

Hope won twice at home to secure an unbeaten regular season and an outright MIAA championship. The Flying Dutch beat Olivet, 99-51, and Trine, 59-52. It is the seventh time Hope went undefeated in MIAA play. Center Olivia Voskuil scored a team-high 16 points against Olivet. Junior guard Kenedy Schoonveld netted a team-high 14 points against Trine, including 12 during the second half. Hope clinched the top seed in the MIAA Tournament.

Kalamazoo (4-21, 2-14)

Olivet (4-21, 1-15)

Olivet closed the 2019-20 season with losses to Hope (99-51) and Saint Mary's (70-54). Senior Amari Brown scored a team-high 14 points against Hope. Senior Jazmin Hildebrand shared game-high honors with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting against Saint Mary's. Freshman Hannah Brown joined her in double digits with 17 points, with five three-pointers.

Saint Mary's (10-15, 7-9)

The Belles went 1-1 on the week with a setback against Albion at home last Wednesday and a win at Olivet on Saturday. Jade Mosier led the Belles with 20 points and nine rebounds while adding two steals and two assists against the Brits. Giavanna Paradiso added 16 points and eight rebounds. Saint Mary's had four players in double-digit scoring at Olivet. Giavanna Paradiso (19 points, 12 rebounds), Bella Dugas (15 points, nine rebounds), Maddie Rzepka (13 points), and Jade Mosier (10 points) helped lift the Belles to their highest scoring output since January 22. The Belles earned their second consecutive berth in the MIAA Tournament and travel to Albion on Wednesday.

Wrapped-up the regular season with a 1-1 mark that included a 94-44 win against Kalamazoo...Tara Bieniewicz led the Thunder in scoring with a 14.0 ppg average and shot 55.0 percent (11-of-20) from the field...Bieniewicz scored seven points against the Hornets and then ended the week with a 21-point effort against Hope...Katy Steers tallied 13 assists in two games, including nine assists against Hope...Trine will be the number two seed in this year's MIAA Tournament and will play on Friday in a semifinal game.

2019-20 MIAA Women's Basketball Standings
