Around the MIAA 

Adrian (7-12, 1-9)

Adrian dropped a pair of MIAA road games at St. Mary's (Ind.), 66-61, and Albion, 66-55…in both cases, the Bulldogs fell behind 15 points or more in the first half before mounting a second-half comeback that fell short…the Bulldogs host Kalamazoo on Wednesday and Hope on Saturday… mid-year transfer Chelsea Palmer made 9 of 17 field goal attempts for a career-high 18 points and added eight rebounds and three assists against the Belles…junior Sha’Trice Graves has had four consecutive games of 10+ rebounds and leads the MIAA with a 10.2 average…she has 505 career rebounds to place sixth on the school's all-time chart…Graves also needs seven blocked shots (147) to break that all-time AC record…as a team, Adrian leads the MIAA with 5.1 blocks per game…Palmer comes off the bench to lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 10.9 points over nine games played.


NR/RV Albion (16-4, 8-3)

After a 60-38 setback to then-No. 3 Hope Jan. 29, Albion responded with a 65-51 win over Adrian Feb. 1. A 15-2 run to start the second quarter was the turning point in that contest. Elena Welker (13), Evelyn Wischmeyer (14), and Rain Hinton (15) all contributed double-figures in points for the Britons.  


Alma (9-11, 4-7)

Alma crushed Olivet 76-39 on Wednesday (Jan. 29) evening in a wire-to-wire win, then fell to Calvin 65-48 on Saturday (Feb. 1). Alma led the Comets by as much as 40 as held Olivet to under 25 percent shooting from the field. Juniors Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich.) and Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich.) both led the Scots with 12 points apiece. Sophomore Oretha Humphries (Detroit, Mich.) had a team-high 16 points against Calvin, making all six of her free throws.


Calvin (12-8, 6-5)

Calvin women’s basketball went 1-1 this past week with games against Trine and Alma. The Knights came out victorious over Alma with a score of 65-48 and fell to Trine with a score of 56-33. Gabby Timmer had a double-double in both game with 24 points and 12 rebounds in the game against Alma, and 15 points and 11 rebounds in the lost against Trine. 


No. 2/2 Hope (20-0, 11-0)

Hope remained undefeated on the season, winning twice to improve to 20-0 overall. On Saturday, the Flying Dutch recorded a season-high in points during a 104-39 Senior Day victory against Kalamazoo. Junior Olivia Voskuil scored a game-high 13 points. On Wednesday, the Flying Dutch won, 60-38, at Albion, behind a career-high 25 points from junior guard Lauren Newman (Flushing, Mich.). Hope continues to lead the national in scoring defense at 40.9 points per game.


Kalamazoo (4-15, 2-8)

The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team fell in a road match-up at No. 3 Hope with a final score of 104-39 Feb. 1. Earlier in the week, Kalamazoo dropped a 66-39 contest to Trine Jan. 25.


Olivet (4-16, 1-10)

Olivet fell to Alma, 76-39, and Trine, 71-39, in its two MIAA games last week. Against Alma, junior DeeDee Post posted team-highs in points (14) and rebounds (seven). Senior Tammy Lee scored a team-high 10 points against Trine.


Saint Mary's (8-11, 5-5)

The Belles claimed a 66-61 home win over Adrian on Wednesday in their lone contest of the week. Giavanna Paradiso led all players with 24 points and had a team-best eight rebounds. Bella Dugas added 12 points and six rebounds, and Maddie Rzepka posted 10 points and seven rebounds. Nikki Murphy narrowly missed out on a double-digit scoring effort with nine points while adding four assists with zero turnovers, four rebounds, and a steal.


NR/RV Trine (16-4, 10-1)

Defeated Calvin and Olivet...Kelsey Taylor led the team in scoring at 11.5 ppg and also averaged 7.0 rpg...Katy Steers was second at 10.5 ppg and averaged a team-best 7.5 rpg to go along with nine steals and six assists...Sam Underhill tied Taylor in rebounding for the week at 7.0 rpg.
