Hope 75, Saint Mary's 36

Hope benefited from a hot start and a steady all-around performance to defeat Saint Mary's Friday evening, 75-36, in the first semifinal game of the 2019 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

Sixteen of 17 players that took the court for Hope found the scoring column, led by Kenedy Schoonveld's game-high 15 points on six-of-seven shooting. Francesca Buchanan added 11 points, hitting all five of her field goal attempts. As a team, the Flying Dutch shot 55.4 percent from the field.

Hope (23-3) had a 24-2 scoring advantage in points off turnovers and a 46-8 ledger in points in the paint. 

Saint Mary's (11-16) received eight points off the bench from Carin Kaminski. 


Trine 79, Alma 43

The top-seeded Thunder scored in the first 10 seconds and never looked back as Trine topped Alma, 79-43, in the second semifinal. 

Trine (24-2), ranked one spot in front of Hope by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, was fueled from a 25-point performance from MIAA Most Valuable Player Brandi Dawson. Dawson shot a blistering 10-of-13 from the field in 20 minutes of play.

The Thunder forced 24 Alma miscues on the night, aided by 11 steals, resulting in a 23-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

Alma (15-12) was led by Oretha Humphries had a team-best 11 points.
