Dawson, Buchanan Headline MIAA Selections to D3hoops.com All-Region Teams

Five Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball players received regional honors this week (March 12) from the online publication D3hoops.com. Trine's Brandi Dawson and Hope's Francesca Buchanan led the way, garnering First-Team All-Great Lakes Region mention, with Calvin's Ali Spayde and Trine's Hayley Martin being tabbed a second-team all-region performers. Hope freshman Kenedy Schoonveld also earned recognition as the region's co-Rookie of the Year.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.

All five players were also All-MIAA First Team selections in 2018.

Buchanan led Hope with 12.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in a season where the junior eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for her career. 

Dawson shot an MIAA-leading 60.6 percent from the field on the way to 14.6 points per game. The two-time MIAA Most Valuable Player aided Trine in appearing in their first-ever round of 16 contest at the NCAA Championship.

Martin was second on Trine's team in scoring with 11.0 ppg to go with a shooting percentage of 45.7 percent while garnering MIAA Defensive Most Valuable Player accolades.

Spayde averaged an MIAA-best 20.8 points per game to go with 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest while connecting on 84.2 percent (128-of-152) of her free throw attempts in 2017-18, and was a two-time MIAA Player of the Week selection.

Schoonveld averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 23.4 minutes per game with 31 starts while shooting 49.2 percent (127-of-258) from the field, and had three 20-point performances on the year.
